This is from a PM Isabella/Pam sent me, I'm sure she wont really mind me sharing it with you. Hello Skarloey, You will be bored silly by the time you have finished reading this!
I have been entering competitions for many years now - the first was in Garden News in 1992 and I got 1st Prize with my greenhouse in the Gardener of the Year competition.
You were then barred from entering the same category for 3 years but I was lucky enough to win 1st prize again twice after this.
We won many prizes with our garden - for a hanging basket, hanging bag, front garden and best overall garden
In Woking in Bloom we have entered 16 times and won a first prize 13 times
I entered a competition in Gardens Monthly and won £1000.00 worth of Bradstone paving etc. - we were then able to match up the front garden path to our patio!
We bought a second-hand greenhouse ( the one with the tomatoes in it) and I noticed a competition in Garden Answers
' Show us a photo of your greenhouse' - as my greenhouse was looking pretty good I sent in a photo!
I was lucky enough to win the greenhouse opposite the tomato greenhouse!
Well (are you bored yet?) I wrot e and thanked Garden Answers mentioning that I was going to grow lots of different varieties of Tomatoes in my new greenhouse
Garden Answers wrote back saying that as it was the 400 anniversary of tomatoes coming to this country would I be interested in doing a Tomato trial with John Walker who worked for the magazine
So that year I grew about 28 different varieties of tomatoes and John and Colin ( the photographer) visited every few weeks to take photos
So I had my ugly mug spread all over Garden Answers with a huge pile of tomatoes of all colours, shapes and sizes!!
( bored yet?)
Well, John left Garden Answers and went to work for Mr.Fothergills seeds.I had a letter from him asking if I would be interested in growing loads of Petunias and trailing geraniums so that they could take photos!
I said yes and that year we had petunias and trailing geraniums everywhere in the garden - we even utilised an old washing line to hang baskets from!
So I had my photo taken with lots of petunias and was in the seed catalogue for about 3 years running - my claim to fame!!!!
I didn't want to put this on the message board as it sounds like bragging but if we ever meet up again I will show you all the bits and pieces - well that's if you want to see them
Best Wishes Pam WOW......Well done Pam, you should be really proud! And yes, I'd love to see it all one day.
