Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you know anything about this plant as I have heard that it is good for attracting insects to the garden. I have googled but there seems very little information on how well it grows here in the UK. I would love to hear if any of you have grown it and how well it did at attracting butterflies and moths.

Hi Tuppence! I haven't looked at Sleepy's links, but I do grow it. It is called the 4 o'clock plant, because it only flowers in my garden after 5pm I find that it doesn't flower until late July. It's pretty good for bees, but then I've loads of stuff that does that job. Its quite nice, not especially garish and gets to a decent size. It's not hardy, so lift it each year. I'm sure I lifted mine 3 weeks ago, but now I'm unsure, so will check tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder.....

Thanks for replying, the Hindu link was very informative. I have been racking my brains as to where I had heard about this plant before when my friend asked me to check it out for him. Then I remembered I was given a free packet of seeds from Thompson & Morgan but because it didn't mention on the packet that the flowers were beneficial to insects I am afraid I threw the seeds away. It is a bone of contention with me when growers don't mention on their seed packets the benefit to insects, I know some do but there is still a long way to go I think.
