Well it is difficult to say much, as it will make it easy but this palm has a male and a female tree and the photo at the top is the male plant - very difficult to imagine I know The palm gets it's name from the seeds that is produces - they take over 7 years to ripen and are on the endangered species list. It can only be found in two places in the world - both places belong to a group of Tropical Islands. Enough for the moment - if you still cannot get it I will post a pic of the seeds. RF

Post by Rosefriend on Jan 14, 2007 19:12:13 GMT
Yes Plocket - I thought that I had said too much. This is the Coco der mer - which is also called Lodoicea seychellarum Labill . Well done. as you can see both the male tree and the seeds/nuts have incredible shapes. They grow in the Seychelles where I used to live - on the island of Praslin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coco_de_merRosefriend

They polish them up and they really do look like a woman's buttocks. They cost around 300 Euro if you can even get one these days. In the Seychelles they used to adapt them for carrying water and liquids. Good guess Rosefriend
