I purchased a chasmanthe duckittii spring 2005 and planted it in a long tom pot. Nothing seemed to be happening, so in July last year I planted it in the back of the border and forgot about it. I wanted the pot for something else, when I inspected the corm? or bulb? (or is it a tuber?) it hadn't rotted but there was no sign of life whatsoever...
Well this morning I was in the garden setting out a treasure hunt for my great-nephews and where I planted the chasmanthe are two long spikes...look like they might be leaves eventually..they're already about 24" long...should I try and protect it? do you think that it might be the chasmanthe? around that area I also have a few alliums but the spikes don't look much like them.
Any ideas? CPBx

Oooh, I like the look of them !
Unlikely to be alliums CPB. I've got a few dotted about (mostly "purple sensation" and one I don't know what it's called - note to self : make 2007 the year to start learning plant names !) and there absolutely no sign of any growth on them yet.
