Ahhhh....snow next week then.
March is a very unpredictable month. Whilst it has been mild, averaging around 10-12 C, we usually get a few days in feb when the temp is in the upper teens. This year we haven't.
Enjoy the sun and all the bulbs and plants in flower but don't be fooled....beware the ides of march !!!

Spring doesn't really start for me until the Vernal Equinox (round about the 21 March).

Maybe officially FA, but nowadays i doubt it. Ive had many a March day in the garden with the temps in late teens ! March seems to be a good month nowadays with February taking over the old dreary March days !

It might look spring-like out there Mr G but I'm still wary - there's plenty of time for snow and heavy frosts yet ;D

Mr G
I wasn't talking about when Spring officially starts, I was just commenting that for me, it never feels like Spring (whatever the weather) until after the equinox.

I'm not feeling at all "spring like". Still a fair bit of snow on the ground, which is still frozen solid of course. Yesterday the temperature was down to -22C with a windchill that took it down to -33. Today is a bit better at -12C right now, and a forecast that says it will get "up" to around -7C. But it's true, March is an unpredictable month. The longer-term forecast is for a warming trend starting over the weekend, so we'll see. Hopefully we've turned the corner on winter and the light at the end of the tunnel is Spring and not another ice storm/ blizzard like we had last Thursday. The weather hasn't done anything to prevent the big show from going on, though. Canada Blloms, the big Flower and Garden show starts today. It's not in the realm of Chelsea, but it's the biggest garden show we have in these parts, and for the life of me I can't think of any reason why "they" insist on having it at this time of the year. It really gets my gall when I go to the show, get all pumped up and rearing to get going with my gardening, and walk out into snow and freezing temperatures. That really ticks me off. www.canadablooms.com/cbhs.html

Hey TT.......hello stranger ! Long time, no see. Good to see you back on here again. I hope all is well. I wish we'd had a bit of snow and some cold weather. I've had cherry blossom since mid January and daffs since mid Feb. It's nice, but at the same time it also reminds you of how much the climate is changing. And it also means the weeds get going earlier too..... FA

The reason it feels like Spring to me is that after that, the days are longer than the nights until midsummer. I don't know where British Summer Time fits in - I think it's just the first Saturday night after the Vernal Equinox (although I may be wrong about that) FA x

Hey there FA I beg your pardon? I'm not strange. ;D Have been away for a few weeks. Went on hols to Trinidad. Had a great time, including 2 days of Carnival. Posted some flowers/plant and Carnival pics on the other board. Didn't know if I should post them here as well since so many people go to both boards. Don't know about you but I've had more than enough of winter. It's like the obnoxious brother-in-law you invite over for a drink just to keep peace with the missus and he just doesn't know when it's time to leave. I want to be out there digging dirt, moving stuff around, planting new stuff, buying new stuff and wondering where the heck I'll find room for them and attacking slugs.

TT
I don't visit the other board very often now. Can't even remember the last time I logged in there to be honest. I may have to pop over to see your pics though.
Our "Winter" (well, MY Winter, anyway) consisted on one day of snow, which arrived in the early morning and was all gone by 3pm. Most of the rest of the time it's been mild and dry or mild and damp !
Good to see you back, anyway.

Tell you what FA; just 'cause you're a nice guy. How about if I send you a couple inches of snow from what we still have here on the ground, and say, maybe about 10 "minus" degrees from our temperature. Deal?

I'll save you the trouble of going to look for them on the other board FA. I'll post the Carnival pics on the Holidays pics sub board, and the flowers/plants pics on the Garden Gallery sub board. You might want to click the "view slideshow" tab, especially for the Carnival pics, to save some time since there are quite a few of them, and to get a better sense of the colour, dancing and movement of Carnival. I had to cut down on 3 days of Carnival street parades plus competitive shows for individual prizes. Sorry I couldn't include the hot sun, music and errr, "beveraging" in the pics.

My Witch Hazel has been in yellow bloom a while and across the driveway one of my flowering cherries has been in bloom for a while too. The FC this year has more flowers on it than ever before Many of my daffs out and in flower - tulips not fully up yet As soon as the trees start to put out their leaves then Spring for me will have def arrived

Gorgeous day in South Essex ! Suns out and not cloud in the sky ! My gardens finally starting to drain. A bit chilly BUT who cares when its as sunny as this ! Most of the Daffs are out, only the later ones to bloom still. Tulips in the tubs are poking their heads above the compost. My two Clems in their tubs are growing like mad, i had to tie them back yesterday. I still post on the BBC site, not as much granted, but i still have a look. There seems to be a core of posters on this site but the BBC seems to have far more 'one off' posters.

Grinchy
I concede - it really felt like Spring today here ! It's clouded up a bit now but at lunchtime it was glorious. I took some sarnies and went for a drive down some real country lanes. I stopped in a layby for lunch and then just got out of my car, closed my eyes and listened to the breeze. It was warm, not a cloud in the sky and everything seemed just about ready to burst into life. Fantastic.

I agree, its in the air !!
Decided to do a bit of scarifying on a particularly mossy bare part of the lawn. Looks even worse now, but i think if it stays dry I'll fork it and put some more grass seed down ! The lawn from a boggy mess on Monday, is now ok top walk on ! Things are on the up !!
