I've just found your thread about your toothache - how is it now?
I really felt for you having stayed awake all night once when I had what the doc called an "arthritic type virus" my hand were so swollen and painfull I wanted to cut them off! I ended up just pacing round the house because the pain was so bad.
Hope you're ok now!

Hi Borderbabe and all of the people that so kindly gave me some tips yesterday.
Well as I have said I had to wait longer as my own dentist was at her dentists - happens I suppose - never gave it a thought.....
Anyway I went back and when she saw me (have been going there 25 years) she just groaned and told me to sit down before I fell down - she wasn't so far wrong.
Then the fun started - my face is swollen, the gum surrounding the tooth is bright red and obviously infected - so she took an x-ray and there is NOTHING whatsoever showing up on the x-ray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She said that she couldn't believe it - poked about a bit more - much to my discomfort and then gave up. After chatting for a while she came to the conclusion that after I had had a flu jab just over two weeks ago and reacted to it - flu type symptoms etc, somehow I have got an infected area somewhere and it has come out through my tooth ---- if any one can explain that more fully - well feel free - it's a new one on me.............
Anyway upshot is that I am on 3000grams of antibiotics per day (double the normal amount) for the next few days - I am still in pain although it is not quite as bad and I have to go back on Wednesday.
Borderbabe as I have arthritis im my thumbs - I thankfully used that medicine last night - still didn't do a load of good though. As you say the pain is abominable.

Jeez Rosefriend! I hope the antibiotics help you and kick in soon. Is the dentist just going to check how you are responding to the stuff when you go back on Wednesday?

I have no idea what she is going to do on Wednesday - I hope that the side of my face will have gone down by then. As I am not allergic to anything, all I can hope for is that the antibiotics kick in quickly but it is normally 48 hours as far as I am aware isn't it?

Gargle salt water every now and then, that might help with the infection. The only thing I can think is the old 'ear, nose, throat' thing. They are all linked up, so if the flu jab provoked the infection, maybe the easiest place for it to rear its head was through your gum. How cruel of your infection to find such a nasty way. Where's Dr Bill when you need him. ;D Hope it all gets sorted out soon. Take care.

Rosefriend I think the antibiotics will kick in quite quickly as the dose is high

It's probably wait and see time I'm afraid. In the meantime there is little I can add to what others have said. Note to admin - We need a dentist on the board

Hi Dr bill
Thank you - that a sinus infection could cause so much pain is incredible....
Whatever I have, I sincerely hope that it clears up quickly....at least the antibiotics will be doing some good.
Thanks again

Christ, I hope you get rid of the pain soon, I'm glad I've got fairly good teeth, just hate the pain from toothache.
That's a thing you never think about..... a dentist going to a dentist.

Hi jl
It all sounds plausible to me - I just have one tooth and the gum that I cannot even touch because of the pain - all the rest of my mouth is fine.
Wouldn't an abcess show up on x-ray - or am I way off the mark?
However I just hope that the antibiotics do the job - if necessary she would always give me another load but I think that I should wait and see what happens. I just wish the pain would go completely - it is a bit wearing although I have got Ibuprofen which helps of course.
Thanks jl I appreciate it.
