I was wondering what kind of seed compost you all use. I usually mix up some general purpose compost with John Innes No 1 and some vermiculite, seems to work most of the time.

I use general purpose compo mixed 50/50 with course sand for seeds and cuttings I have bought Vermiculite to try for the first time this year. I'd thought about using my usual mix and using the vermiculite to sprinkle on the top ??

John Innes No 1 to which I add a bit extra grit.

At the risk of sounding boring for most ornamentals......John Innes or Levington's Seed Compost recipes! If required then my little helper top dresses with a bit of vermiculite. For most edible crops I use multi-purpose. However, there always exceptions....I love exceptions don't you?

Last year I used a mixture of sieved peat-free compost and vermiculite. Some things did OK but quite a lot didn't
This year I will be using JI seed and cuttings compost

I just use multipurpose compost with vermiculite to cover the seeds if needed
