Oh I'm so pleased you had a good time - mind you I didn't expect otherwise! Your photographs are great and it looks as though you had reasonable weather too. I wish I could have made it but LP's plans seem to be the priority at the moment - still hopefully there will be another trip somewhere soon ;D

Some more pictures from the Botanical gardens. Not all are named so if anyone can enlight us that would be great. Unfortunatly The BBG did not name all their plants which was a bit annoying at times. I had a great day. It was cold but sleepy brought the sunshine with him to make up for it. We had a lovely walk in the grounds looking at the trees and shrubs in flower. Then into the glasshouses to warm up. I will definately be going back in the spring when the Rhododendrons are in flower. View over the grassed area with glass houses to the right. Cotoneaster Broad leaf shrub. Camellia ? Cyclamen Sleepy under the Tree Ferns. Unknown yellow woodland plant.

Thanks for sharing more pics sweetleaf. Look at you a rose between two thorns ;D The Camellia's look lovely and I'd love all those Cyclamens too, what was the plant on the bottom left of the Cyclamens, sort of grassy with flowers or are they just Cyclamens growing through the grass clump.

It looks really lovely there. I'm so glad you all enjoyed it. I can't believe a Botanic gardens not naming plants - that's terrible! I LOVE that Camellia - I can't grow them ever - wrong soil, climate and everything but I think they're gorgous. Thanks for posting piccies

They are cyclamens! I think its an ornamental grass they are growing through although I may just be being charitable..it looked a lot like couch to me ;D Anyone know what the yellow plant is on Alis pics? We probably should know, I have seen it before somewhere....... we like that!

I'm fine thanks.
Hitler isn't quite so good. Her leg was swollen last night so I've had her GP out to look at it today. She's just phoned me and thinks it is excess retained water. However there is a slight chance that it is a clot. So I've got to take her to the hospital tomorrow for a scan.

Looks like you all had a really good day out - brilliant that you could meet up like that. ;D Great photo's too My daughter was at Uni just across the road to the Botanic Gardens, but unfortunately we never had the chance to look around - shame. Hi Sleepy - sorry to hear about Hitler's leg problem.

It's not causing her any distress (not tender or painful at all), but as she's 97 in April I don't take any chances

You should be able to find the aconite bulbs easily Alicat - and I'm fairly confident that you'll find them available in little pots in flower at the moment at many garden centres. I'm sure our Wyevale does them anyway.
Oh dear that's not good news about Hitler Sleepy, but it's nice to see you back. I hope the problem is easily resolved for her and that she isn't suffering.

Hi Sleepy - sorry to hear about Hitler's leg problem. The Uni has its own Botanical Gardens Rita, called Winterbourne. They are also well worth a visit. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are a little further away, still in Edgbaston though.

looks like a lovely day, I'll have to have a good read later. The camellias look lovely, but whenever I see them in gardens, they always appear as a more rounded bush. Is that variety/ age or pruning? I much prefer the look of these. they look like ramblers. You might find Winter aconites listed under their latin name Eranthis as well Ali. I like them too, but not a big fan of yellow, wish they came in other colours. Great pics btw!
