On a different theme. One old discarded plank of a garden fence can be used to make one lovely new birdbox. Simple I know. Yeah, I've done that a couple of times with discarded skirting boards. OH brought an assembled birdbox to Japan recently!!! I am pretty sure it was since the 7/7 bombing! I don't know how she wasn't stopped. If I can get the picture of it on IL's balcony as proof I will. She just had carry on luggage, packed her 'smalls' inside and away she went!!!

Irish built!
Asked OH to come to laptop as photo is believed to be on a yahoo photo hosting site. Funny that my three yahoo photo hosted albums have been migrated to Flickr, but OH has had no notification of same. As soon as I got word, I told her to check it, but she wasn't approached about it. Anyway, I have a shortcut saved to my favourites on my pc, still on neighbour's laptop atm. It's in there, or perhaps on a cd that I can't find at the moment, either...I'll look and see if I can get the pc fired up tomorrow, I spent much too long at it yesterday for me to even look at it tonight...
It's been so long since OH logged in, we tried about 10 times using various postcodes and passwords and all that. I will try and see if I can recover it from pc asap. But it is deffo in the far east! FIL is in photo too. Oh you of little faith!!!

Dutchy, not to worry. I have at the moment 2 profiles, one with 11 posts and the other main one with about 85 posts. I must get back to the other one, but when I log on here via the accreditation email, it brings me to this id. I am a bit confused. When I'm on my own computer I'm automatically directed to the right one...

Just had to get a new mini greenhouse. the original one lost its cover in a gale and the frame got bent and twisted but I can use is to display plants on during the summer and for putting plant trays on once they're hardened off until I can plant them out. Useful as all my wooden racks that I used to use have rotted away/been chucked away when the fence was replaced - I think OH told the neighbours it could all go

Mine is able to hold standard seeds trays as the frame work is L shaped rather than the tubular frame work. Works a treat

Me too! It was one of those tall ones (about five shelves). Fits into the GH perfectly

Thank you

Hi Pip ... I've used newspaper to line old chip baskets ... they soon discolour to a 'compost colour', and the plants will cover them anyway ... cheers ...

Thank you Pip I've used old jumpers like Wee has, I've also used old compo bags, black on the outside. If you r are planting all around the basket you don't see the black. Never thought about T.Shirts or newspaper

Just been reading back on this thread, some great ideas. I must remember to try the newspaper in the hanging baskets next year, maybe when I put them away in the shed I'll stick a few newspapers next to them as a reminder ;D I used an old wooden window (the opening bit) to grow a few sweetpeas up this year, I wedged it between two of the raised beds and it worked a treat. I had my eye on an old step ladder too that had been dumped down a lane near us but on further inspection it was really rotten, would have looked nice with a few small pots on each step and maybe a bigger one on the platform at the top, never mind Anyone recycled anything really unusual this year

We had to buy a new cross cut shredder today (OH tried to put CDs through the old one : . He was chucking it out when I confiscated the shredding tub! I think it will make a decent carrot container with a few holes drilled in the bottom

Well, yer man next door built a ruddy big wall behind my hedge. bar steward is right. about 3' taller than the hedge, with the ugly grey cavity block. Small mercy is that he hasn't as yet, built his A frame roof on it. Three years waiting, hopefully he won't. But the hedge was leaning over quite a lot into our garden so I attached a reinforcing bar onto his wall and it keeps the hedge upright. I found the rebar under a bridge in the local canal. Dead proud of my recycling ability. Here is the result. s2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/GrandCanal/?action=view¤t=richgg044.jpg

I have a use for the glass containers that you get deserts in - particularly in France - they make great tea light holders and easy to light as well.

I sow my sp in toliet roll inners, this year I put the inners into the polystyrine trays which the pansies came in. They are a perfect fit and I've no need to worry about them tumbling over any more. Keeps them nice and snug too.Great. ;D

Love the idea to use those glass containers for T light holders Borderbabe. I have rather a large collection of them and have used some of mine to put seed heads in until I get around to cleaning the heads, they stack up on top of each other lovely too. Nice one LNG, they would hold the toilet rolls perfectly, unfortunately I dumped several of those trays the other day, they got burnt what a waste.

I'm a hoarder and for years I've saved all those little poly sealable packets that come with spare buttons in with new clothes. I'd been sorting through my old sewing box and suddenly thought of a better use for them ;D
Real Seeds send seeds out in them so I'm gonna keep all my saved seeds in them, little bit of paper inside with the name on and bobs ya uncle ;D

It might be a good idea to wrap them in a bit of paper first before putting them in the bags depending on where you store them Chuckles....I put some seeds into an old button bag last year and stored them in the shed....when I went to look for them they had gone all manky where the plastic had sweated. I ended up throwing them away

Good advice MRH thanks for the tip, because like Chuckles, I've been saving the plastic bags my memory sticks came in from the conference the other week. I was thinking that they'd be good for sending out seeds to folks.

It's not really for the garden but I have potpourri in several bowls and such around the house and I refresh them each at least twice a year and I've been saving all those lotus heads, cones, shells and seed pods. Now I've seen RF's GC displays I know what I was saving them for! ;D

YES thank you Chuckles. Just after flitting to home after asking I saw the thread come up in the last post bit. A big hug and thanks. I'll bookmark it now Gosh you are so right there are some good ones I forgot about too. Hey lets give the tip of creating a deluxe sowing container... Nah I bet every one is collecting plastic containers for sowing or storing or using as waterbut or or or. Although this one LNG used could also be used as a mini GH. Very classy almost glass like.

Last Thursday my fridge freezer went caput! so before I let my Son take it to the tip I rescued 2 salad bins 2 freezer wire trays and a couple of shelves! Im using one of the salad bins with sunflower seeds in plant pots, I slid it in the bottom of the airing cupboard on Sunday I took it out this morning as a few had germinated!! that was quick! so now Im wondering what I can do with the trays they are about 18"square and 6" deep!
