Very clever Missy! Good way of keeping little tomatoes watered properly Chuckles. We had a recycled bottle greenhouse at one of my old schools.

There are some great ideas on how to use the bottles are'nt there. Missredhead do you have a bottle top on yours like the one in Chuckles picture? Was it difficult to put the hole into it?

Chuckles, Jasmine, Missredhead, Ladygardener, Tig, Jilly, BarbaraOur Markise has problems (gas thingy is on the blink) and we are only allowed to let it out halfway which means as we are on the South side that it gets really really hot (60degC) if the weather is right - far too hot for us these days...we had a couple of simple, cheapy umbrellas and a water foot so we decided to use that and move it around to stop most of the sun getting in....mmmh - the foot was leaky (we have had it years an the plastic is done for now) so OH came up with this idea... Across the road they are building a garage and using cement so after sorting through our old pots he found one that we didn't need any more and asked them if he could have a little cement... ...then after two days it was dry and we could put the umbrella on. Not soopa doopa but certainly ideal for us at the moment and works just as well as an expensive foot, especially as we have it on a wheels even - hahaha!!

On the way to the allotment yesterday I saw that someone had put out a fridge freezer for disposal of by the council. I opened it up and got 4 good sized safety glass shelves. I took them to the lottie with me. They will do very nicely set across some containers to make cold frames.

Brilliant Ladygardener, I'm going to be on the look out for old fridges now. Your's is a great idea too Rosefriend, I'm glad you said it's got wheels on it, we had one of those sealed bases that you are meant to fill with water but it was never stable enough to OH filled ours with concrete, which was fine if you could ignore all the swearing when it came to moving it We quite often have to order huge reels of cable at work & the centre of the drum is usually some sort of chip board so not very durable, but the last couple we've had, the centres have been made of heavy duty plastic, so OH took the 2 ends off & just left us with a cylinder. With this one I've rested a cheap wire hanging basket on the top, I could have bought a liner but the Lobelia is a trailing one & I had an old post sack (which is porous), so that will soon be hidden. Plus that left me more in the budget to spend on plants I've got another one to do, so I'm thinking of just covering the bottom of the cylinder with more post sack & planting it up, perhaps a bit later on for the autumn, it'll give me a bit more depth than just using a pot.

Actually Ladygardener, it's another one of the Happy Days series (yes I did have to go back & get another one, for £2.99 each it would have been rude not too ). It's called Happy Days White, but although it's hard to tell in the pic, the flowers are actually a very pale apricot, they may turn white with age though.

The waste bins at work are meant to be used for waste from the units but a lot of people (including us) often sneak things in from home to dump, just happened to glance that way this morning & someone had dumped a large bundle of bamboo canes (some with cane toppers attached) and a couple of windowsill sized drip trays, so waste not want not I grabbed them, and a couple of very large plastic pots which will do nicely when it's time for the Dahlias to go into the growhouse.
