Did anyone see the Radio Times perennial plants offer? The offer was incredibly good - 50 plants for £19.90 - free delivery. I thought I'd missed out on them (the offer was at the beginning of January) but telephoned yesterday and they are still available!! I've attached a link to the leaflet showing the offer plants for anyone who's interested. The telephone orderline is 0870 112 6054 reference RA48. The plants are: - Hollyhock x 5
- Red Hot Poker x 5
- Aquilega x 5
- Gypsophilia x 5
- Chinese Lantern x 5
- Lupin x 5
- Echinacea x 5
- Sea Holly x 5
- Heliopsis x 5
- Liatris x 5
Alternatively you can buy any of them individually for £5.99 (5 plants). The only downside I can see is I know some people have had problems with plants from T&M and other online companies. I haven't but then maybe I've just been lucky. This offer is perfect for me as I've got to create a garden for a friend who has just bought a house with a 100ft garden with practically nothing in it. It will certainly help towards filling one of the long borders! Hope this helps Tony

Morning Tony, That IS a bargain. I bought 25 from Parkers 2 years ago at about the same price, yes I lost a few but the rest grew fine. I potted mine up first (I got mine in the December I think) and grew them on in a cold frame till spring as they were only tiny and was too scared to put them straight out. I'd say they were definitely worth the money, losses an' all. ;D Good luck with yours. Skarloey.

The only trouble with the Radio Times plant collection is that it's full of repeats

" A hundred foot border" Thats going to take some filling, hope you will take some pics to share with us Heaven forbid!!! I couldn't cope with maintaining a border that long let alone creating one! On the left hand side (sunny) I'm planning on an initial 25ft border with a cottage type feel to it near to the house, with a veg patch after that, then the greenhouse with the compost bins at the end of the garden. They want to keep a large expanse of lawn, even though it's clay soil and very water-logged so I can't break up the garden that much. On the right hand side it's quite shady, mostly due to the neighbour's hedge so that's where my hostas will go along with some ferns I've been bringing along especially for the purpose. I'm hoping to get a pond in - sited where the hedge ends so that it's half in sun and half shade. I've taken a short video of the garden I'll see if I can link it on here. It's only a 1 minute long and is in Quicktime for those who want to watch it. I also upload some photos of the garden. I will probably start a photo thread in the Garden gallery in case people are interested in the before and after progress stuff.
