Mornin' all. Just been in my local woolies, and they are selling patio apple trees with a free silver birch for 9.99. I am very tempted...Would I be a mug? Two trees for a tenner? My little boys would love to pick their own apples.

Have you room for two trees? Is the apple self pollinating?
What rootstock is the apple on?

I have room for a potted apple tree, not quite sure what I'd do with the silver birch . The apple tree is on a dwarf root stock (I THINK it was M7(?))

You will need two apple trees. They cross-pollenate.
Oh, I see Sweetie has already pointed that out!

I had a self- pollinating apple last year, in its first year it produced one apple! But it did fill a half barrel with its roots, now its in the ground and I have bought it a partner for this year Both are on dwarf root stocks.

This apple tree is self pollinating. I wonder if it's worth taking a chance just because the price is so low? (Yes, I am a complete novice )

Have just got back from the shops. Didn't buy the apple tree today (still thinking) but did buy two hellebores (evergreen with green/yellow flowers), a lily of the valley, some coneflowers and loads of summer bulbs. Oops.

The symptoms are clear... HRT momentsA sudden urge to sow seeds even though its too soooonPlans to dig up more grass The sudden realisation that your garden isnt big enoughVast collections of pots keep appearing. You are aware of every frost, and stress about the consequences Youre looking at greenhouses, or if youve got one bigger greenhouses!
When it gets terminal, you put your name down for a lottie

Erm, sweetleaf? You have just made it official! I suffer from all of those symptoms (have already enquired about an allotment). I have recieved a green house catalogue, even though I don't have a place to put one. I sprained my ankle last week tripping over a vast collection of patio pots. Is there no cure?

I've already got an apple tree but I love the idea of a birch tree..... Our Woolies said last year that they were stopping doing plants this year - I hope they misinformed me! ;D

Rosemother there is another symptom to look out for. It's the need to buy climbing things. It means you have been Plocketed & you have Clematitis. Please look out for these symptoms as they can be terminal, to the bank balance especially when it's combined with all the other plants & things needed for gardening. You have to be good to them or you will be reported to PSFPCC. (Plockets Society For The Prevention of Cruety to Clematis). Hope this hasn't worried you to much. Janet.

Theres no cure, Im afraid you have to pander to it. If you try to fight it, it will make you very unhappy, IMO. Go with it, though and its not a bad way to go.

Rosemother, you are now an ECO WARRIER (or earth mother if you prefer) but your condition is very good for you - stress free, healthy and life enhancing - have you got several compost bins yet though?? It's when you start getting grumpy with the family about throwing things in the bin instead of the compost and start checking out other people's rubbish that you know you are deep green all the way through... ;D
