What are the top three plants on your wish list for the coming year? Mine would be (at this moment):
Black Bamboo (doesn't really go with my cottage garden theme, but stuff it!) Astrantia maxima (love the olde worlde look of these) Lavender (and lots of it! Need to keep those aphids away from my new rose bushes)

What a nice thread, Rosemother ... (1) Datura - tried taking cuttings from a friend's, but they've all died (2) Aubretia to stick in the wall cracks (will try growing from seed) (3) Don't know the name of this one and haven't found it on the net: there's a lovely winter-flowering hebe in a few gardens around here with deep maroon flowers and dark greenish-purple leaves - looks gorgeous! ... cheers ...

Hi Rosemother Mine do change order constantly, but I would say at the moment left to be purchased: Iris Crystographes Zantedeschia Purple Sensation Hellebores Niger [sp] There are actually things higher up, but I am awaiting an order to try some of them from seed. Top of my list is astrantias, but I am giving the seeds I have sown one last go before succumbing to pot grown, so wasn't sure if I should include them. Ask me next week and it will be different!

Hi Canary! I notice that your location is Dublin. My hubby was Tallaght born and bred (and he doesn't even have an ASBO!) We go back to visit 4-5 times a year. Hoping to get back for Paddy's day ;D

Sleepy that's a good idea putting a link to the plants it saves a lot of time googling. I love that wedding Cake tree - it looks stunning. My three would be Rhododendron ponticum Heavenly Bamboo pink or white rambling rose - to climb up the tree stump in our back garden.

Shame you're not closer.....if you're ever down Brighton way, i've got a large pot with 3 heavenly bamboo in and i'm bored with them. You would be welcome to them and they're looking particularly stunning at the moment...they just don't fit in with my plans !!!

Eye up what are you all trying to say. We just happen to have the same likes/dislikes in plants. and yes Sleepy is the prettier one but as Jonah pointed out we're definately not one and the same - I can't do computers for toffee.! ;D Andy - don't throw them yet. Jonah, sleepy i'll fight you for them. OH goes down that way on business occasionally maybe I could get him to take a detour.

Have got all the three plants you wish for Rosemother The black bamboo has withstood all the dreadful gales and looked at it yesterday - the stems are a vivid black and growing really well - it was well established when I bought it so then went on to buy another one, different species which is doing really well too My wish list A large mature tree Another large mature tree Another very large mature tree Well I love trees - have three large(ish) Amelanchier in the front garden and planted two smaller ones in the back Not sure how, where or when I could get some big trees into my garden - anyone know of anywhere North that does this

I would LOVE black bamboo too but it would look very silly in my wildlife/native/totally messy garden I would LOVE Astantia Ruby Glow as it is very beautiful but my garden doesn't provide suitable growing conditions Witch Hazel with English Bluebells underneath which is one of my plans for this year But most of all I would LOVE a building fairy to do my paths for me one bright moonlit night ....

I acquired a witch hazel Rita - I didnt plant it - dont know where it came from as one day it wasnt there the next day it was - it is now quite big and coming into "flower" and yes what a good idea I do have room for bluebells underneath it - maybe next year
I have Ruby Glow but I much prefer the paler colours
