Hi all ... just been tidying up and pulling down old annual climbers, when I saw clusters of baby snails on the wall . What's the best way of getting rid of them before they turn into munchers - would throwing salty water at them help? And advice appreciated ... cheers ...

Put them in your bin or take them for a very long walk to nearby woodland.

Thanks Rita ... I was hoping to work out some way of avoiding snail-contact (I feel about slugs and snails the way 4P feels about rats) ... but I guess I'll just have to grit my teeth, wrap my hand in a plastic bag and scoop them up ... cheers ...

You could use an old dustpan and brush to get them to the bin.

Try a garlic spray they don't seem to like that.....or salt water would be ok but try not to get on the plant. You could just squash 'em.

I don't have many snail cos my chooks keep them down - but I get quite a lot at work mixed up with the veggies straight from the field. We chuck them in front of the shed and the birds come and get them - but I have a terrible confession - when I come across a tiny baby snail I can't bear to kill it so I chuck it in my wheelbarrow.......they are very cute when small I think! Sorry CC.........even baby rats can be sweet I'm told (can't believe THAT though)!

How I agree, when they have an almost transparent shell & a tiny head, however I don't feel the same about hibernating ones, I pick them off whatever they have stuck on & take them elsewhere. The birds need feeding this time of the year after all
