It is often easier to advise people on Gardening Matters, if you know which part of the country they live in. This is even more significant for those members living outside of the UK. I realise that some people (myself included) choose to include their location in their profile, but a good number of others do not.
I'm not taking about house number and post code here, but something like North East or South West etc.
It woud also be interesting to see what sort of geographical range of members we actually have.
So to start things off, my home town of Boston is in Lincolnshire, which these days seems to equate to East Midlands.

Lewes, the very historic county town of East Sussex. 10 minutes from Brighton, 20 minutes from Eastbourne and 30 minutes from Gatwick airport. Famed for its very high profile murder cases at the crown court, Harveys best bitter, the world pea throwing championships and the incredible bonfire celebrations on Nov 5th. www.lewes.co.uk/www.harveys.org.uk/Residents include the oldest lady to give birth in the UK....she gave birth about a year ago aged 57, Oliver Cromwell, Tom Paine and Ann of Cleaves

I'm in (not so sunny for the most of the time) Glasgow. 10 mins west of the city centre, and go another 10 mins further on and you get to the airport.
If you walk to the top of the road you can see mountains (the locals call them hills).

Those in the UK need to be good swimmers to get to me. I am 20 km south of Amsterdam in an area called the Groene Hart, that is the Green Hart for English speaking gardeners.
As for those not knowing the conditions around here. Very wet winters with sometimes strong frost. Summers usually the same but with strong heat instead of frost. Soil type: something very useful for pottery and keeping Physiotherapists in the area employed.

Well, if you need to swim to get to Dutchy I think you should take the plane for me! I live in the NW of Romania in a middle sized town. My garden is 20 km far away in other small town where I have a house. The garden is quite big, about 2000 square meters. A part of it has fruit trees mainly apple and an old, big walnut tree, other part is for vegetables. Any other free space is for flowers, perennials, annuals and about 150 rose bushes. We have here nice springs and summers, sometimes hot, lovely autumns and winters quite cold with temperatures that can reach -20 C. Well, it seems that it was until now. If we had a cold winter last year with a lot of snow and the first when my climbing roses froze almost entirely this year the winter has been mild with only 3 insignificant snowfalls.

I'm just 10miles north of Portsmouth and about the same distance from Chichester. Both famous in their own way - one for its sailors and football team!! and the other for the Roman ruins - I'll leave you to work out which. Skarloey will know!!

I've just realised I haven't contributed to this thread yet ! I'm in Suffolk, close to the Essex border living in a smallish (but rapidly expanding ) market town. It's quite a nice place to live, to be honest but is being spoilt by having houses built on every available piece of land around. They've even proposed 170 houses on greenbelt land, that will completely obliterate a view made famous by Thomas Gainsborough (our most famous resident - see link) in one of his paintings. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Gainsborough Cheers FA x
