Apart from tuesday when it rained all day and i took half days holiday, this week has been one of the most productive weeks in the garden for a long long time. I've had one of the blokes from the park opposite helping me but the amount we've ploughed through has been quite incredible. We have burnt a sizable proportion of the rubbish large beds of rubus has been pruned down to the ground Cornus and salix winter bark colour pruned All mahonias pruned (except those still in flower) Large buxus pruned Foxgloves, allysum saxatile and aubretia planted Screes weeded Fuchsias and miscanthis divided and moved Penstemon cut back A large purple Hazel cut down to ground level An Ulmus 'Jackaline Hillier' given a new, better shape by some big limb removal I even had time to go to our nursery and choose some plants for future planting. Also, had a walk round with my manager today and he agreed to almost all my proposals for improving the garden....including Removal of several large beds of lonicera pileata which will be replaced with turf and naturalised bulbs and the removal of a large 40' high yew tree which will open up the shrubbery revealing some superb trees and shrubs including Kolkwitzia, a superb 20' high photinia. a large blue spruce and a massive strawberry tree. And next week....i start mowing weather permitting !!!! Happy days

I've circled the yew tree with red that has to be taken out. It'll be done in the autumn after all the birdies have finnished nesting and i think we'll have to get our tree gang in to do it. The large, roundish tree directly to the left is a beautiful photinia.
