Assuming you send Christmas Cards, when do you send them? I tend to send ours by second class post, a couple of weeks before Christmas. But today we received our first Christmas Card - it's not even December yet, not even officially winter!!!!!

I usually aim for the first week in December. Are the Christmas stamps out yet?

Hehehe as opposed to Hohoho? He's a bit like the Raymond Briggs Father Christmas isn't he! I quite like it, at least it's cheerful. PG

I am afraid that I am not a very good Christmas card organiser. I often think as November draws to a close that it would be a good idea to at least write out my cards. Instead, I put it off and then end up making a mad dash to the post box about two days before the last posting date. One year I might get myself organised! As for this year's Christmas stamps, they are alright I suppose, but it is a shame that Royal Mail have chosen to issue stamps purely based on the commercial ideals of Christmas rather than on the true meaning. This is Royal Mail's link for the new stamps.

Apparently they have a religious theme on alternate years. This year is the secular version.
At least they're bright and cheerful, some of the ones issued in recent years have been a bit naff.

Well I'm glad the snowman is the second class stamp - that's what I'll be using! That Father Christmas does look as though he's contemplating something serious doesn't he? ;D

Do they really need the magnifying glass? Why can't they just enlarge the picture, I held my breath when looking at them, maybe it was mild claustrophobia ;D i'm a mixture of second class, and first class, start out organised then a mad panic to get them there, and another handful given to my mum to pass out at her social club. As I now have big school, playschool, and toddler group, friends and family that have moved abroad this year, no doubt I will be worse than ever. I bet the postage cost has gone up CPB, they might turn up at the recipients with a 'pay 2p to claim your mail ' message attached Not sure where to vote, I'll go for 3rd week in december

I don't know about claustrophobia Jonah but looking at the stamps that way make me feel queezy!!! We haven't even got our cards yet so can't even start thinking about writing them, but they were designed by LP!!!

Call me whatever horrid names you want but I don't send Christmas cards! Complete waste of paper, time and money. So there! I'm much more likely to wish people a Happy Solstice. I have designed a range of alternative cards in the past with things like "Bah Humbug" written in glitter but, strangely, they didn't sell.......

Hi 4p, At work, we all give a fiver instead of cards (there's about 60 of us) and that goes to our local hospice.

Um, I dont do cards myself, but I buy a box of cheapies for my youngest to give out at school, and because Ive never sent them no-one misses them. One of our friends sent us a card a few years ago, and the same card has been boomeranging back and forth ever since, we just add a new greeting.... it sounds mean but that card is important, none of us wants to be the one left in possesssion.. Any cards I get, get recycled except that one.

I don't think we can put cards in either, but I think it's WHSmith who collect them for a charity, so I give any that I don't want to keep to them. We can't put wrapping paper in our recycling

That is early. We send about 30 off by 2nd class post, and I try to get them off in the first week in December . It is a good way to keep in touch with people you don't normally see or don't have any contact with during the year. The new stamps are tiny and very uninspiring. maisypark

How tiny is tiny Maisy? Aren't they the usual bigger sized stamps that are usually produced for picture ones?

There isn't an option in the poll for We start ours at the beginning of December & we each write & send 2 or 3 a day (starting with people in Canada & ending with ones in Cambridge) until we've finished, which we make sure we do before the last posting date. I think R would buy your bah humbug cards, 4P! - he is always saying that around this time of year ... and would you believe, someone has stolen your idea: www.charitycards.co.uk/product_details.php?id=PCCA06207&catId=238I posted the link to the charity cards site on one of the other Christmas threads but think they are worth mentioning again - I'd recommend them if anyone is looking for cards (for Christmas or anything else) - their cards are either from a specific charity or the same sort of cards you'd get in the shops but with a percentage from each sale going to a charity of your choice (from the list on the website).

Royal Mail have a compo for schools - reproduce their stamps and win ICT equipment. I am thinking of the health and safety and career implications of getting a child up on the school roof in a santa constume, sitting on the school chimney with a strained constipated look on their face ;D
