Called in at the garden centre today to get some more T & M sweet pea seeds for the trial And thought would have a look round, as you do They were selling Hellebores for £13.99 a plant - they were nothing special I bought one couple weeks ago from another centre for £7.99 and I thought THAT was over priced But people were buying them regardless My GF thought they were pansies

I like hellebors but was put off by the price at our local GC...admitedly they were beautiful big plants..but all the same... Maybe they are expensive to produce or something ;D.
I bought a few small ones recently from another GC..they were £3.99 and I don't really expect them to flower this year at all...do they have to get to a certain size/age before they flower? My 'Niger' has been flowering it's socks off for weeks now...I was going to move it to the shady fern bed..but it obviously likes it where it is (in full sun!)

I bought 2 hellebores from morrisons a few weeks ago for £1.79 each. One is a stinking hellebore and one is an orientalis. They were only small, but have grown a fair bit and I'm looking forward to seeing how they do next year No flowers this year though!

£13.99! I think that is a complete rip-off. I rarely buy plants from GC's I suppose - well, only little ones! But I do have a walk round fairly often, just to see what's about. Most of the perennial plants are between £1.99 to £5.99, the shrubby ones tend to be a bit more which is fair enough since they take a bit longer to get to sale size. Call me a grumpy old bag but I would have demanded to know how they could justify that kind of price.....especially as my mum's little Spring garden has about 50 self seeded Hellebore babies waiting for me to pot up at the moment!

I bought two a couple of weeks from a nursery. They were £3.50 and they were in two litre pots. They were very healthy, glossy leaves and a good number of flowers. £13.99 is a shocking price.

My mum got 3 christmas roses for £1.20 each at work a few weeks ago. We were also selling off primroses and something else for 5p for 12 plants because they were a little worse for wear.
Some of the things we have I think are too expensive so I just tell the people in the garden centre to let me know if they are marking any down in price in the future and then I go to the manager who knows nothing about gardening (and who I can talk into most things) and get him to mark them down to a ridiculous price (such as the Azaleas for 50p each when they were £4.98 or 3 for £10). I'm a bad'un aren't I? hehe

Well the odd compliment goes a long way ya know! He smells nice so I told him and now he's ever so nice to me. He apologised to me a few weeks back because he thought he'd offended me. I told him if he had he'd know about it. Bless him. We're on a mission to find him a girlfriend.

on our wages?! mega rich?! you're running a bath ain'tcha?!
He's on fast track at the moment so works a lot. Feel a bit sorry for him really cos he's turned 30, lives with his parents but I think he's a good looking lad with a nice personality. However, I don't think he really has time for a girlf anyway!
