I was wanting to buy a fig plant but haven't had any experience of these. I read that they need to be contained as they are very quick growers.
Anyone had any experience of these and can you recommend a variety?

Yes I can recommend Brown Turkey - I bought mine from Crocus www.crocus.co.uk/search/pl/?ContentType=Plant_Card&ClassID=1000000029&CategoryID=I grow mine in a very large container. Quote from Crocus - Garden care: Plant in a 40cm (15in) pot in the ground or in lined pit to restrict root growth - unrestricted root growth leads to poor fruiting. Prune in spring when all chance of frost has past. Remove any frost damaged or weak branches, and thin out shoots to let light in. Some pruning may be required in summer - pinch all new shoots back to five or six leaves
