Hi all ... I'm just copying this into a more visible thread; sorry for posting twice. Saw this morning that one of the emerging tomato seedlings was fluffy with white mould, and removed it, but I want to make sure the other seedlings (six seedlings fully emerged with two leaves) are not affected ... I won't be able to go into town to get anything like Cheshunt compound for a few days, so need to do something fast. Even though they are so small, can I prick the seedlings out into pots with new compost - would that help? Any advice appreciated ... cheers ...

I'm not an expert on tomato seedlings CC, or any other seedlings for that matter, but I sowed a packet of Butterfly Collection seeds a couple of months ago and when they came through, about a couple of inches high, they were aso all fluffy and I thought that I'd left the lid on the seed tray too long and they had got fluffy with condensation. However, on taking the lid off and getting the air to them all the fluffiness went away on its own. They are now all growing in pots quite happily and unaffected by the 'mould', or whatever it was. Does any of that sound familiar with your seedlings?

Hi Canarycreeper!
I think this is most likely to be Botrytis (Grey Mould) and would agree that treatment with Cheshunt is your best option.
Botrytis is a real pest at this time of year for all seedlings not just tomatoes.
Good ventilation is also very important, spacing out the plants will help to encourage this.
Good luck!

Thanks to all who replied on both threads (that really was a sign of my panic) ... I've now spaced them out by removing the weaker seedlings, and have not watered, which does seem to have solved the problem by improving ventilation. But I'll definitely be getting tea tree oil from the chemist as a precaution. Incidentally, although I've now removed excess seedlings germination was 12/12! ... cheers ...
