Hi all,
went out to a friend's yesterday and saw the most amazing plant in his garden. Unfortunately, the garden was done by a landscaper, and he couldn't find the little chart thingy - so couldn't identify it.
It's a small deciduous shrub with long clusters of incredibly fragrant pinkish-purple flowers; the flowers grow direct on the stems, and the plant comes into leaf after it flowers (starting to come into leaf now). The smell is sort of like a hyacinth. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I tried the BBC's plant finder, but no luck. I need this plant! ... cheers ...

Hi Sara ... thank you!! I've googled, and yes - it is Daphne mezereum. I've fallen in love with this plant - the fragrance is heavenly. Anyway, apparently one can take cuttings June to August - so guess who's going to be angling for a summer dinner invitation, armed with secateurs ;D ... cheers ...

So glad you asked this question CC I've been after the same shrub for ages but couldn't remember the name of it, it's now on my want list. Only problem is I've not got a clue where I'm going to put it ;D
