I hope the mods don't mind, but I have already posted this on the BBC boards, but I am still on pre-moderation there and as it's the weekend it may take some hours to appear. This is my question:- Last year at this time I was visiting my cousin in Edinburgh. I went up on the train so didn't have much option to bring anything back. Anyway, whilst I was there, we had a day out to a local nursery, and I happened to see a beautiful bright purple clematis, but unusually with the scent of orange blossom. This wasn't actually at the nursery but was growing over a fence from the property next door. I naturally assumed that the owner would have bought the plant from the nursery but when I enquired, the nursery said that several people had enquired about the same plant, but it was one that they didn't stock. They said that they had tried on many occasions to get their rather disagreeable neighbour to let them take some cuttings, but he had always refused. Conversely, it seems that he did sometimes let visiting gardeners take a cutting for their own garden, but it seemed to depend entirely on his mood on the particular day. Apparently he resented the nursery being there at all, as it was on some land that he had wanted to use an orchard, but he had been outbid at a land auction some years before by the nursery owner. Anyway, back to the point. I asked my cousin what I should do, and she said that I might as well chance my arm, and if he didn't let me take a cutting he might just conceivably tell me what the plant was called. On leaving the nursery, I plucked up courage and knocked at the gentleman's - I use the term loosely - door. No answer. Several knocks later, and on the point of giving up, the door was flung open by a rather imposing figure in full Scottish gear - including kilt! -. Before I could make my plea I was met with a hail of almost unintelligible abuse, which went on for some minutes. I am usually a quiet sort of person, but I wasn't going to be spoken to like that for nothing. When I could finally get a word in, I asked rather forcefully, if I could at least have the name of the clematis. The name was virtually spat in my direction, after which the door was slammed in my face. Needless to say I was distinctly unimpressed with this attitude, but not to be outdone, I jotted the name down and resolved to try to find the plant when I got back home to Hampshire. Despite trying on and off for exactly a year today, I still have been unable to find Clematis 'Norfolk Enchants', so I give up. Unless anyone else can help me? LFPx

Is that true? 'Tis nice to see pictures of young twenty somethings on the Board.....even if Mr Jonah's nail polish wasn't up to the mark Mrs Jonah looks replete and representative of the high dress mark standards sadly lacking on GWD ;D I had my toe nails painted once.......on my Honeymoon.....not by the wife either
