Two serendipitous things yesterday....
Exhuming some stored box plants to make a little enclosure, I found a mouse (probably) had stored about 50 acorns in the tub, some of which had started to sprout - so I've picked the best 2 dozen and planted them in some old modules found under the staging. I'm sure we can find somewhere for those...
While preparing a bed for some garlic, discovered two fleshy 'weeds' just poking through that the Mantis had failed to chop out - two very plump and viable-looking runners, fallen from last years over-wintered frame. Don't have the heart to dump them, so will put them among the sweet peas, to keep the 'trials' bean frame sacred...

Don't you just love these unexpected finds especially those Acorns. I find it difficult to dump growing things, I've had to stop myself potting up young Holly trees though ;D

Isn't it amazing what pops up? In our first year, after removing the ashpalt which covered the whole garden, a tomato plant popped up (possibly due to knackered sewage pipes); it even bore fruit although it was too late in the year for them to ripen. And a canna plant appeared - when I first saw it emerge I thought, well it looks like a canna but obviously it can't be (Dublin, inner city, previously covered in asphalt) - but that's what it turned out to be. It has now been joined by several shop-bought siblings ;D. And last year a little un-named evergreen bush with white flowers in autumn came to join the parade . Mind you, have also had loads of unwanted Buddleia, couchgrass, dandelions etc. ... cheers ...

Bonsai? - d'you know I always feel a bit sorry for bonsai (though not as sorry as I'd be if I bought one and 'lost' it)... marvelous craft, but it seems a bit unfair somehow...
Reminds me of that lovely line in AbFab when Jennifer, exasperated, says to her mum "You don't seem to realise- inside every fat woman is a thin woman trying to get out" To which Mum says sweetly "Just the one, dear?"
