There's been several threads recently about putting young tender seedlings out at night....usually to free up some greenhouse or window sil space. Unfortunatly, the weather is so unpredictable at this time of year that it is possible to lose entire batches of plants because they've been put out too early. I worked for 10 years in a small, family run commercial nursery producing bedding plants for sale to a bigger chain of garden centre. My boss was a superb botanist and gardener and lectured all over the world. I learnt many things from him but one things was that the south of England rarely gets a frost after May 10th and that was usually considdered the time that bedding could be planted out. Well that was 25 years ago pre-global warming etc and now, i really don't think your safe until well into June from freak frosts and even snow showers. However, my old boss would always make sure a good batch of bedding was in the garden centre for easter....and it would usually sell out no problems. The frosts would come along and kill the easter batch in people's gardens and they would have to buy another lot.....sometimes for the same to happen again !!! But there are some plants which are hardier than others. Generally speaking, fleshy, watery plants such as impatiens and begonias do not tolerate cold very well at all (including cold north or north east winds) whereas gazanias, sweet peas and other hardy annuals will take a small frost. There are plants in the middle....plants which will go down to 2 or 3 degrees and come through it ok....geraniums, petunias, marigolds, salvias etc will do this. But they won't tolerate it every night or for long periods. Also, generally speaking again, the larger the plant, the better the chances of survival......so small seedlings will fare a lot worse than a plant that is 3-4" tall. So next time you're thinking of putting your seedlings out because all the family are huddled in one corner whilst the plants have the rest of the house, just keep an eye on that weather forcast. Here's a pic i've just taken of the school that backs on to my garden....the roof is usually black felt and the grass usually.....errrm...green !!!!

There's nothing wrong with my ideas... In fact, the one I had for detachable feet I thought was a rather good idea

See!!! Someone understands!!
Another point was if you really "had" to have a pair of shoes but they didn't have your size, you could buy some smaller feet. Or, if the feet were made of wood, you could plane a bit off yourself!
Women could get ones suitable for high heels where the foot has no feeling so no problem with your feet killing you on a night out and walking home with no shoes on.
I've got loads of good ideas me. Just that no one understands. Apart from FA who is now my new bestest friend in the world ever and can help me market the feet... ;D

We could call them "Happy Feet" and make them in a range of sizes and colours. Maybe we could even get someone like Heather Mills to be our model......... ;D FA x

LOLOL
Nah, don't want to give her any more money than she's got already. I'll get someone unknown to do it and give them a new lease of life modelling feet... My mum always said I could be a model. Modelling gloves/balaclavas/shoes...

That's good advice FA....if only i always followed it!
I'm now wrestling with my runner beans who are getting taller by the day...think i'll transfer them to a cold frame and see if that helps.
