As I was just performing my nightly ritual of making sure all the childrens toys are put away in the playhouse, the tools are in the shed, the greenhouse is all shut up for the night and the garden furniture is either put away or covered over, I was wondering whether anyone else is as fussy as me about putting stuff away at night or do you just leave it all out for tomorrow ?
I don't know why but I can't bear the thought of going to bed with an untidy garden waiting for me to see first thing in the morning. I especially hate leaving children's toys out.
Am I mad or does anyone else feel the same ? Are you neat or messy ?

We are neat and no, you're not mad FA ;D We always tidy up, as stuff could get ruined if it rained overnight, or it could get pinched, although I doubt that would happen where I live at the moment.

I'm a bit of both FA, probably more messy Always put any tools away that may rust if they get damp, snips and mower that sort of stuff. I have a table outside the GH that is always cluttered up with bits and bobs, pots, plants etc on it under it and around it. It's my work in progress area ;D

You're not 'mad' mate. As Rita says ^^ . Rain and Thieving B*****s are a good reason to be neat and tidy. And secure.
Apart from that I think our gardens are personal choices. Yours is well Kept. Mine is total devastation.

I want to be neat, but I'm messy The bikes tend to be put away as we don't want them rusting, and I cover the sand pit and put what I can away, but with 3 of them getting everything out I can't keep up! The shed set up is wrong, we are planning on two 6x6 instead of one big and one small. Those 4x6 aren't practical for all their bits and bobs to fit in. We've put a cheap gazebo over their main play area, that will stay up all summer unless strong winds are forecast. I often put toys under there to shelter them from the rain. Plus I often have to down tools quite suddenly, so things get left until I can return. And if one of them is having a difficult night that can be the next day.

Anyone looking at the photos of Spruance's Garden would say that I am very tidy indeed. Then again, others may wonder why the left hand side of the rear garden features so infrequently! Said left hand side incorporates the veg plot, and also the 'small' greenhouse. Sadly, I am none to keen on washing seed trays and pots, that is, until they are needed again. Consequently these tend to be 'dumped' in a heap behind the small GH and on the edge of the veg plot. Similarly the bottom end of the veg plot is the usual 'storage site' for the larger unwashed containers. I do always put tools away after they are finished with though so I'm not all bad! I'm not sure if I dare post any photos as it may shatter the illusion of tidyness! ;D

Ours is reasonably tidy, although there's always room for improvement . If we have a barbecue, it gets left out until the following day to cool down. I have a dread of setting the bin on fire if I empty the ashes too soon... Otherwise, all tools and other bits and bobs get put away every night.

I'm messy by nature, but MAKE myself tidy up...the staging in the GH has lots of stuff shoved under it..it starts out tidy...but you know how things are ;D...OH, on the other hand, is an obsessive tidy-upperer.... he's jolly good at it so I don't interfere...

Dare I say it ; I would have to say I have leanings to the 'tidy' side of things. For instance I have to have my allotments dug & tidied prior to Xmas, this is the last November;

Good grief! I am definitely messy...although I dream of being tidy. Well, not so much tidy (I like weeds, me) but more organised. But as I am married to (officially) THE messiest man in the kingdom and as our daughter is following his example I have given up and now try to contain the chaos a bit. For example, I felt ill last night so went to bed at 6pm and this morning the lawn is strewn with stones, an old metal rose arch, sticks and lumps of concrete as they made an assault course for smallest on her bike. It will stay there until I put it away.......as will the various boots, seats and plant pots taken out for some peculiar scoring system known only to them. It's a case of drop your standards or explode with fury really......... I nearly fainted with jealousy when I stayed at Cheery's house last September....her OH is REALLY tidy I didn't know there were men like that......

I'm tidy in the house but in the garden but i can be a bit on the messy side. Yet OH is untidy in the house but tidy in the garden!
So we compliment each other.

I'm not sure if I dare post any photos as it may shatter the illusion of tidyness! ;D Go on dare you, you've spilled the beans now so you may as well show ;D ;D OK to shatter the illusion of the tidy garden, and since Chuckles has dared me (!) here are a couple of photos from the Dark Side!... These are the large containers, mainly tomato pots so I still have time to deal with these. ;D Whilst this is where the seed trays usually end up as soon as they have been emptied. The latter area has however been transformed today to accommodate our recently arrived 'dalek' style composter, so pretend that the trays aren't there! ;D

I am over the top tidy in everything; office, home; garden I remember seeing F-A's computer desk - on here of course not at his house - you could eat your dinner off it so tidy and clean I couldnt sleep Spruance if all those trays were piled up like that - would have to clean them and stack them or take them to the tip I am getting rid of my ugly shed soon and replacing with a tidy looking greenhouse and then utilizing one of my garages by erecting shelves for all my garden equipment

Your pictures have comforted me no end Spruance! An allotment like Isabella's OH would frighten the life out of me - what a responsibility..........I'm so glad that you have an untidy (or "working area" as I prefer to call it) bit in your lovely garden. I blame lack of time, lack of a bendy back and too much time spend clearing up everywhere else for mine!

I blame lack of time, lack of a bendy back and too much time spend clearing up everywhere else for mine! Yes you've hit the nail on the head there 4P. Time!I tend not to have a lot of time in the evenings after work so that puts the onus completely on the weekend. I was in the garden virtually all day on Saturday, and for quite a while yesterday, but the working area (I like that ) jobs are a long way down the list of chores. Washing the tomato pots will begin to rise towards the top of the list once the plants have been repotted, but I still have around four weeks before I need either the pots or the ground. Thanks for the compliment on the garden.

Heavens, Spruance, your 'working area' is half the size of my garden! I must admit I am a complete slob in the house, but pathologically clean and tidy about seed trays, pots and the mini GH. I can't put an empty pot away without disinfecting it etc. Mind you, the garden itself is a bit of a mess! ... cheers ...

Hi FA, Im anally neat im afraid. Sometime i even frustrate myself with my neatness. I cant walk on soil to prune or dead head without turning over the trodden on earth after. My daughters stuff MUST be packed away in the Wendy House every night, tulip petals must be picked up once they have dropped etc etc.... It even annoys me sometimes but not as much as the Mrs who is anally messy !!!!!

I am very neat and tidy. There is only a very small part of the garden that I allow to become a little "wayward" at planting time.
I also hate untidy plants, awful isn't it.

Spruance - I don't know what to say I use the tray on top of the water butt when I am potting up The bags are full of lovely homemade compost waiting to go down to the allotment. The pots will be planted up over the next couple of weeks. Perhaps I should apply for a job as a set designer then
