Does anyone else forget what they've planted? Earlier this year I planted a load of bare-rooted perennials - and now they're coming up. But did I make a note of what I planted and where? No, of course not, that would have been far too organised ... Oh well, guess I'm due for a couple of nice surprises later on ... cheers ...

I am just the same - after attempting to plant some perennials and coming up with roots and green bits from other things, I have let things be for the present.
I normally work on the principle if I have a large area of soil "free" - well it has got to have something in it as I haven't got any large areas left.
Every year I promise myself that I will make a list and a plan of what is in the garden, and I could as I keep all the labels but somehow I still haven't got around to doing it.
I did even think about putting it on a RF garden thread here so that it would be easier to keep adding to it - still haven't started it.

I do it all the time, I've got seed trays in the windowsill with seedlings in and not a clue what they are And when I was organised enough to write out a name on the label, unfortunately they washed off whenI sprayed the seedlings.

Yep! I do it regularly! I keep telling myself I should bung labels in where everything grows, but then in winter I'd have a garden of white plastic!!! ;D

No! Not me! I keep meaning to reply to this thread, but keep forgetting Actually I am especially handicapped at the moment, by the fact that my 19 month old Minx has "re-arranged" all the seed labels. I HAVE said this before, but I cannot possibly emphasise the potential for disaster in planting schemes. My tomatoes and chillies have now gone awry, so which do I plant in a hanging basket and which conventionally? Last year to avoid this I bought some "stickey dots" in four colours, which don't get pealed off by wandering hands. In simplistic terms a Red dot with "GD" meant Gardeners' Delight tomatoes. This year I had intended to do likewise, but found that the Minx had obviously manouvered her high chair. Climbed up it. Knocked said labels onto the floor, where 8 month baby was found with them stuck on her tongue (2 blinkin' hundred of them!). So I suggest you have a few laughs at my expense ;D....Wait until I have a 12 foot sunflower in a hanging basket and yes of course I will take pics.

We will have to ask OM for a new section in the hanging basket competition - most original I am better organised with my seed trays this year, only because I picked up a load of plastic labels as an afterthought at a GC counter. I still have managed to end up with a couple of trays of brassicas that once pricked out lost the lables, but at least they will all be going in roughly the same bed . As for my garden, well but having a rainbow theme it doesn't matter and by June everyone is wearing sunglasses anyway ;D

I write things on the back of my hand to remind me to do stuff at work. Customers say I should get a note pad but the whole point of writing it on my hand is so that I remember I've written it down. If I put it on a note pad, I'll put the notepad away and forget I've written down what I needed to do.
Anyway, with all my stuff being in pots, I don't have as much bother with what I've planted where because the label is either still in the pot or it's easily identifiable as to what it is.
