Is it just me - I am finding that seed that I harvested and saved from last year has a far better germination rate than packets of seeds from well know suppliers?

I agree , and unfortunately its the organic seeds Im most disapointed in, by far the best germination rates are from seed I saved myself. How long are these companies hanging on to the seeds is the question?

Hi Sweetleaf I have made 3 sowings of Blue Lake and only ended up with 6 plants yet the runner beans and butternut squash which I had saved from last year - 100% germination. I bet hardly anyone complains though

I did try to complain to T & M one year but just got a packet of seeds in reply, I collected some pelagonium seeds last year and have about 25 plants going strong, all for nothing. The hardy geranium seeds in packets hardly ever grow for me but those I save all grow like weeds. Has anyone had a problem unsticking the seeds off those plasticy metal packets??

I've never had a problem with low germination rates of seeds. Partly cos I've never actually wanted that many plants so I've been happy with what I've got.
The packets always read "quality tested to ensure high germination rates" or something like that though don't they? Just to cover themselves...

I got loads of seeds from friends last year we did a seed swap.....i've planted loads and the germination rate is about 95% which is really good.
I dried my own runner beans last year and sown four weeks ago and the plants are going great guns.
