Just had a tour round the garden I have a serious infestation of greenfly . Roses, natutally. Aplles, Pears, Plums and even little 'ol Vinca! The numbrt of insects is extremely high for this time of year. Any body else got similar issue. I assume its the unseasonally high temps 21C here
Dramatic measures may be taken if Ladybirds dont get here soon.

Foz my garden is teeming with ladybirds but the greenfly are out in such strong numbers that you need to take other measures. I only protect the roses as I do not want the flower buds to go. All else fends for itself with help of the ladybirds. I read somewhere that you can make a garlic spray that the greenfly hate. I think it was Plocket who wrote or reacted to it. When I find me marbles I'll let you know. Or maybe some one else can help you. D.

Got loads here Foz but no greenfly or any infestations at the moment - too dry for anything but a few homo sapiens wandering about.

I read somewhere that you can make a garlic spray that the greenfly hate. D. Its the smell they do not like allegedly, any of the Allium family will help. Particularily Garlic, Chives and Onion. My rose beds also act as secondary veg and herb plot with chives and onoins next to the roses. Yet to try the garlic spray, got some on the go. There are just so many, never seen so many this early. My first protection is like yours, I now have very, very green fingers! Fx

I can see the two of you touring the garden ;D Don't the neighbours wonder about the surgical gloves? Zigs good thinking one can probably make a hefty solution out of lavender as well as garlic. Rotting leaves of nettle seem to do the trick as well. A two in one, getting rid of the nettles and the greenfly

It wasn't me who said the garlic water was good against greenfly but I've started using it on them just in case ;D It's early days in the trials yet but I'll keep you posted. The stuff is so pungent when being steeped that I've had to leave it in the garden!!!!!

My daughter brought 2 in tonight, saying, " Look Dad, it's having a piggy-back ride ..."
I hope she keeps that innocence for at least another 20years ;D

lavender is good for repelling insects too, as is thyme I believe. They're in the insect repellent blend I make up anyway! And peppermint.
