Mrs Bill and I have just been for a wander around the garden and I am really thrilled and excited about how things are coning on. Rhodo's are coming into flower, as are the lavenders. Buds on the lupins, Wonderful forget-me-nots everywhere. Oh so much to see and relish. Must get out and take some photos this weekend. I love this time of year

I've been amazed by everything that's coming up. It's a bit more exciting because I've only been at this house for 2 months and the owner has stuff planted in the garden that I didn't know were there or what they were.
I've got some leaves in the garden at the moment, possibly a hosta, a buddleia, a weigelia and some other stuff that I've not identified as yet but will probably cut back and get rid of cos it's sticking out too far....
My seedlings are shooting up, my dahlias have all sprung back to life and my rhodos and azaleas are in flower.

It's surprising how colourful the garden is for the time of year. My ceanothus in the front garden has been flowering in earnest for almost two weeks now, and the cotoneaster horizontalis is just beginning to flower too.
What is most noticeable is that the cherry tree has completely finished flowering, and yet when I first viewed the property - on May 15th 1993 - one of the more notable features of the then rather sparsely populated garden was the same cherry tree absolutely covered in blossom!

I always judge the seasons on the horse chestnut flowers. They are always in flower for the second week in may....this year, it was the last week of April

Check the area for slugs. I tried Monarda and my slugs plus those from all gardens around came knocking on the back door to thank me. The monarda never got past half a centimeter.
