Sedums are good for ground cover and they tolerate most soils or there is Ajuga reptans. Day lilies although not low growing or evergreen would look pretty good on that bank too

Thank you all for the ideas, now I will have to take a good look round the garden to see what can be moved/split up etc. I seem to have been spending money hand over fist these past couple of months (I feel that might happen when the OG checks the bank statement) Sorry, meant to say It's the outside banks of the pond Plocket.
