Morning all On Saturday we went to David Austin Roses and Moseley Old Hall. The first three pics are of the gardens at the hall. A huge sweet chestnut tree, a walkway comprising arches of grapevine and clematis and the knot garden. We had a very enjoyable visit there as there was a 17th Century re-enactment group performing and they were very interesting and entertaining. The gardens could do with a bit of tlc but there were some well laden fruit trees in the orchard. I had been to David Austins before, but not in the rose gardens. The roses were in much better shape that I expected after the summer we have had and the smell was wonderful! We bought a repeat flowering, fragrant, pale yellow rambler called "Malvern Hills" to replace a very tatty Clematis "Freckles" on my top arch. I was hoping to plant it yesterday but did not have enough time. Something to look forward to this weekend! s113.photobucket.com/albums/n220/piggingardener/David%20Austin%20etc/

Thanks Jlottie This one especially reminded me a little of the gardens at the Alhambra Palace at Grenada which we visited last year, I loved it there and want to go back one day:

Yes we have been out and about recently, we ought to do more of it but weekends always seem to be spent working in the garden! One of these days I shall get up to Biddulph Grange!

Biddulph Grange is lovely Piggin - try and avoid going on a lovely weekend because it gets quite busy. We went there for my birthday one year, and had birthday cake in the carpark!!!

I'll bear that in mind P! We couldn't have picked a worse one for Trentham but we really enjoyed it and had the gardens almost to ourselves. There's a lot to be said for big umbrellas!!

Hehehe! I think UK gardens should provide umbrellas for their guests because of the naff weather! Your photos have reminded me that I haven't been to Trentham for a while now, and it's a good time of year to visit. At least you enjoyed you visit

The Walled Garden, council owned, that I tended, started having umbrellas for visitors to use. ;D. Unfortunately, they took them home

Mmmm I guess that's a problem. You would have though that gardeners were more thoughtful wouldn't you?

Hm, does the phrase 'something for nothing' come to mind?

I know what you mean Shrubby but I'm of the school that if someone is thoughtful enough to provide an umbrella if it's raining, I'll put it back afterwards for the next person to use.

Looks so lovely, I find the visit reports a bit frustrating, I would love to go but don't always know where places are, could we have addresses of good places to visit, perhaps it is here somewhere & I havenot found it.
