I have/had a contorted hazel which was planted about 10 years ago. It has always been healthy and this spring was covered with new leaves But it has suddenly died - very quickly. I am totally mystified. Does anyone have any idea why this should happen? I am also losing bedding plants in an area of the garden where I have had a lot of mole activity. They suddenly keel over and when I look at them the roots have been bitten through - by teeth I would say, not things like vine weevils. Someone suggested that field mice use mole runs and that it might be them. I didn't think moles ate vegetation.
