I know this has a reputation for performance but this one, having grown through the parapet of a stone wall 18" thick, 'reached out' for the leg of a tripod one morning and by lunchtime had got a good hold:  and by the evening had got three coils round:  btw - see its going the opposite way to runners... OM. |

I remember Chris Beardshaw hacking one of those back on GW once. It really can be a total thug..one of my neighbours had one plant and it took over her garden and her next door neighbour's...(not mine thank goodness) In the end she pulled it all out and replaced it with an equally belligerent honeysuckle.....she's talking of ripping THAT out now...sigh....
You have to admire it tho...amazing growth ;D and it is a useful plant if kept in check I s'pose.

I had one growing in a pot in my last house. When I sold the house, the purchaser wanted to extend into the yard and a condition of sale was that all pots and plants be removed. It was a tiny courtyard, so this was easy - except for the Russian vine - only about six months old - whose roots had grown through the pot into the concrete below! Never again ...

 what are you going to do with it OM, they really are determined aren't they. I remember OH having to remove one from a barn wall, it had gone over the roof and everywhere. He chopped it at the bottom and where it creapt over the roof and while he was on the roof he hung on and did like a bungey jump to pull it from the wall. Silly man
