Hi Isabella - yes I agree with Andy, it is a H. Aspera - I had one for years - they are really lovely with their velvety leaves.

Can anyone help me with this one...my FIL gave me this as a v small plant in a pot 3 years ago now it's huge...i keep lopping bits off but now i'm getting twitchy about it and it's eventual size. It gets tiny insignificant flowers but loads of them followed by what looks like little tiny berries.....the bees adore it...think it's in flower just now as the bees are really buzzing around it.

It looks very much like a Callicarpa to me Ziggy. I used to have one but it died, and was never replaced. On second thoughts... it might be a cotoneaster - maybe cotoneaster waterii.

I am going to go with Spruances first guess of a Callicarpa - the leaves seem a little large for a cotoneaster somehow.
I had a Callicarpa years ago and gave it away but they are lovely when the berries turn purple.

It's not a cotoneaster as i've had these in the past.
It does look like a Callicarpa from the pic, although my berries turn deep purple.
Reading the description no wonder it's doing so well the conditions are very favourable and text book where it is sited! At least i can have a good chop at it now knowing what it is.
Oh Lord, 3m in height....it will be a challenge to keep it in check...but at least it's not going to hurt anything where it is by being tall.
Thanks guys.

i only just noticed the second pic. it looks identical to my cotoneaster but I'm not sure of the variety. maybe waterii or lacteus. It was bought as a small plant at a boot sale but "o.boy" does it grow quickly, i'm fore-ever pruning it.
