Just thought that I would share this with you as I am so chuffed. Its my first year at our allotment and last night I went home with my first proper 'harvest'! ;D ;D
A big box of chard, beetroot, lettuce, radish, carrots and potatoes!
I just wish I had taken a picture of it but it looked so good as all the leaves were still on everything and it just looked brilliant!
Consequently dinner was full of veg! ;D

That must have been a brilliant buzz Julz. Well done! Please tell me about Chard. I've never eaten it, and it looks so much like rhubarb I find it hard to think of it as veg! Do you treat it like cabbage/spinach? or just eat the stalks? What's the taste like?

Hi Nightowl Its really just like spinach, I just steam it for a few minutes as it just wilts down, but the stems need a bit longer. I have tried it on its own and with a garlic butter sauce which is much better. Its nice with a bit of steak ;D The younger leaves Ive shredded and put in a salad as it has a slightly peppery taste but I didn't really taste it cos of everything else in the salad

Harvested my first beans yesterday and had them for lunch today - I am hooked - they were beautiful.
Together with a few of my own spuds that I had, they really made the meal good.
It is the first time I have ever grown spuds and beans, and I can't really say that I am very successful but it is starting to become a bit of fun.

Im getting really chuffed now, heres a pic of the proper 2nd harvest: Everything in the plot seems to be romping away, but the greenhouse stuff seems to be a bit behind. The toms are flowering and there are a few growing. The cucumber, peppers and chillies are nearly starting to flower. ;D And somhow or other Ive got a sweet potato growing but I have no idea what to do with it - I just chuck more compost in the bag and Im hoping for the best ;D AND Im managing to keep on top of the greenfly thats attacking my chilie plants - they squash just like spots used to ;D Julz
