..... and don't come back for at least two months! This is the after effect of a very severe thunderstorm which started at around 17:40 and raged on for a good 40 minutes. It was even mentioned on BBC Look North! Rear garden with our newly finished pond/swimming pool! Front water gardens..... It might not have been so bad but this was the second thunderstorm today and the ground was already saturated. Still, no harm done, although the two inches of water on the patio is rather alarming, particularly as the forecast says that another storm is en route. As the storm approached the sky was completely black, and some people were taking photos of it on their mobiles. It was almost dark at 17:40 and the lightning was directly overhead. It has now finally stopped, and absurdly we have had to water the hanging baskets under the porch as they are bone dry! Is it ever going to stop raining?

It's depressing isn't it ? I've had to pull out several asters as they had stem rot...the phacelia and all the dwarf echiums were broken off and had to be pulled out, my peas are drowning, the lettuce swimming (not v well)....and lots of the bedding (celosia, big marigolds and cosmos0 have been flattened.... The garden is a complete mess....but the bananas and papyrus plants seem to be ok (SO FAR!) never mind...we'll be in the middle of a heatwave come November..... ;D

It's awful I wish it would go away aswell. I'm sure today has been the worst day for the amount of rain we've had, it's been on and off all day and really heavy with thunder and lightning too. As far as the garden goes I've pulled up Cauli, Cabbage and Lettuce because they are absolutely rotten and just going slimey and horrid Foxgloves are rotting halfway down the stems and bending over so no chance of saving seeds, rose buds rotting before they've opened, even some of my Compo Sunflowers have had it. I won't go on it's too heart breaking and I'm sure we're all in a similar situation. Our street has been like a river with the rain we've had today, the drains just won't take it as it was coming so fast. We are quite high above sea level here so no chance of flooding. It must be devistating if you get it in your house. My dishwasher flooded the whole of the downstairs once and that was bad enough.

Ive taken a week off work this week and I am just praying for some sun. AND lo and behold when I got up this morning the sun was beating down and I thought great I'll go and cut the grass (the council grass cutter had done Mrs C's next door at 8am, then the bin men came ). So had a coffee, walked outside and the heavens opened and its been like that ever since, with intermittent very sunny spells. URGGHHHH Im turning into a petulant child now. I stand at the back door looking longingly outside, its just so warm and I want to play in the garden! Julz

We were driving home from a meeting and it went pitch back and they skies opened ... boy I've never seen such rain, visibilty was virtually zero and the wipers could couldn't cope. For the majority of the jouney it was safer to drive @ 20mph ... any faster and visilibility was decidely poor and so much standing water there was quite a high risk of aqua - planing Glad I'm home ... These AGMs are boring and I've done 3 already this week .... I must have water on my brain as I've agreed to coach a Gals under Eights team. A Gals under Tweles and the womens team is going ahead The wife is going to go berserker

I nodded off as the storm took hold, and am rather amazed to find that it is still raining now. Fortunately the surface water seems to have subsided, but the forecast for tomorrow is for more of the same. The outflow from the local freshwater river into the it's tidal counterpart was like a torrent this morning, and that was before the latest cloudbursts. At lunchtime I saw a teenage lad - wet through as it was - and effectively stranded on the pavement by the kerb to kerb puddles. I slowed to a crawl to avoid splashing him but it looked like he had already been caught more than once. To be honest, part of me wanted to stop and offer him a lift, but I was alone in a maroon coloured Ford, and there has already been an 'incident' lately with some pervert posing as a social worker - again in the same coloured car - so the poor lad had to get wet. Another sad reflection on our times.

For 2 days now the rain has been coming and going about every 15 minutes, interspersed by sunshine, and sometimes, as at the moment, both at the same time. By the time you've pulled your wellies on it's too late again. I suppose this is what comes of having our July weather in April!

Just back from Italy, where we had three days of baking heat and blue skies and one day(Monday) hot but rainy in the afternoon. It rained for about an hour - when we went to eat last night, the owner said they'd had enough Can you believe it? I told him about the weather over here and he said 'ah yes, but that is England'. Yes, I thought, too true. Sorry it's been rotten. Shrub.

I'm really quite envious of all these thunderstorms you lot keep getting ! I LOVE thunderstorms. I could watch the lightning for hours but the place I live has some odd geography which means that we often get storms approaching (particularly from the West) and then they seem to skirt round to the North or to the South. My boss lives at Colchester (16 miles away) and is always saying how they've had torrential storms when we only get a distant rumble of thunder. Not so sure I'm too bothered about the torrential rain though ;D
We've had 3 today in the distance but nothing overhead. I drove back from a meeting in Clacton today and the storm was torrential 6 miles from home but by the time I got back to the office, it was bone dry. They ALWAYS miss us.

Quite disappointing here today. Only one measly thunderstorm, although it has still managed to rain all afternoon/evening after a dry start. The water has drained off the garden now, and apart from the battered plants it doesn't look too bad. The mature shrubs and especially the trees seem to look better than usual in fact. The town's big summer event 'Party in the Park' scheduled for this weekend, has been cancelled due to the ground conditions in Central Park. Local radio reports flash flooding in villages around Boston last night but not so bad in town, mainly blocked storm drains etc. Forecast is for yet more rain tomorrow and then perhaps a day's respite on Thursday. Time to get the sunlounger out perhaps?

Did anyone else get the hailstones earlier? Children were just finishing their tea in the conservatory when the heavens opened [again] it sounded like stones, and little one went to the front door with daddy and came back holding a lump of ice!!!! It wasn't even cold outside, quite warm in fact. I can't believe it's july in Kent and we've just had ice falling out of the sky!! Madness!

Not much else over here. Part of my garden has decided not to try and look better any more. The plants stay nice and flat. I'll pull them up later. Good thing I have several drains in the garden. Next doors still has big pudles, I know they did not build a pool. ;D I am going to see Jenny this evening. She is on a cycle tour in the Netherlands. She gave me quite an impressive list of all the rainclothes she was bringing. They are probably all used up by now. I hope she is OK. FA you can come here to watch some impressive thunderstorms. Had one this night and the electricity net was blasted out once again. Took them only 15 minutes to repair, not bad.

We seem to be getting of lightly as regards the weather compered to what some of you are having to contend with. Reading of the thunder storms reminds me of a holiday that I took about 4yrs ago close to Lake Garda in Italy. When you think of all the lovely memories I could have brought back, guess what the best day of my holiday was? Sitting on the balcony one evening with a bottle of wine watching a storm passing over the mountains. the fork lightening was beautiful to see. Am I a sad person or what ;D

Well yes, I enjoy watching the lightning of a summer electrical storm. Especially the sort where it doesn't rain. I was feeling quite disappointed earlier as we haven't had one single storm so far today. It's still been raining though. Never mind, Mother Nature's on the case with another example of perfect timing (Not!), as it looks like something's set to kick off around home time.

Well guess what ? It's thundering again, but off to the North and only distant rumbles Just for once I'd love a bloody great storm right overhead. I know I might get my garden bashed about a bit and stuff like that but I soooooo love storms and yet I live in the one place in the country that never gets any ! I suppose I could always move.......... ;D I wonder what the estate agent would say if I specified I wanted a location that got lots of thunderstorms ;D ;D FA x

How about a bit of DIY Andy? A Suffolk Fire Brigade tender to pump water into your garden. A posse of paparazzi to record the - ideally night time -scene exclusively via flash photography, whilst the local drum band plays "Let There Be Drums". Oh and you could stand waist deep in a barrel of cold water throughout, just to add a bit of atmosphere. Alternatively you could move to Sheffield, or Lincolnshire! ;D
