Anybody know anything about these? A friend of mine has a plant growing in her garden - she thinks it might be a bulb, one of loads her mother gave her (she's not a gardener), it has never flowered (2/3 years old she thinks). It has very strong brown blotches, almost giraffe like, on its stem and long thinnish green leaves with slightly frilled edging. The plant is about 24" high and dies down in winter. Her garden is quite damp and the plant is growing in shade right by a brick wall. In fact it has a trampoline right over it! It has several new shoots, all with this strong marking and there is a baby one growing about 6" away. I think it might be some sort of Voodoo lily but I can't find a site with clear enough pictures of the leaves and stem to ID it for certain. They all seem to concentrate on the flower which isn't much help to us. Can anybody help please?

Oooer...they're a bit rude aren't they? Lots of sexual organs being named...I do apologise for those of a more prudish disposition - how typical of me to lower the tone! I need some clear pictures of the stems before they flower really, Chuckles. Thanks though! I shall have to go take a picture of it I think.

We have loads of these at work....absolutely spectacular when in flower but they have one drawback.....they smell like a dustbin full of rubbish I think i posted a pic of mine in the photography section under "purple flowers" They are indeed a bulb and appreciate a sunny, well drained situation. I've always known them as the Dracula plant....latin name Dracunclulus It only mentions "a virginal spathe"......hardly pornographic really. If you look up the plant rhodochiton atrosanguinea....you'll understand why this is often known as the penis plant

It must be my mind then! ;D I looked at your picture Andy, and I'm not sure if this plant is a Voodoo lily now - the stem is very similar but the leaf shape is slightly different - not clean edged like that...hmmm.....
