I have just pulled out my nicotianas from the pot I found the giant slug in, as they were all dead . What I found in the soil, however, is horrifying!! Clusters of shiny white balls! Are these slug eggs? It was the mother of all slugs! ;D

Sounds like Slug or snail eggs RM ;D You'll find at the moment infact for the last couple of weeks that snails are burrowing into the top of the soil in pots and in the garden, they push down and lay loads and loads of eggs. Next years little munchers I know it sounds horrid but I pull them up if I see them and dig out the eggs and put them on the lawn for the birds to eat Get out there it's slug and snail hunting season ;D

I always throw the slug eggs on the lawn for the birds as well and tread on the others.
I also used to throw slugs over the fence into the neighbours garden but since I have read that they come back unless they are taken over a mile away, I have given that up.
Slug pellets and occasionally a bucket of salted water and a torch at dusk.
My OH has threatened to get me locked up if I do it again. He says that I look like a burglar "casing the joint".

Couldn't you whip them up into a nice meringue? Add a bit of bite?

You have to kill them one way or another RM.i never thought about feeding them to the birds will do from now on. I always found it very relaxing pulling out a snail or slug and squishing the eggs from pots. ;D

I left them on the decking, and the sun yesterday did the rest. I'm hoping the rain today will wash them away <shuddersmiley>

I found a snail laying eggs in one of my pots yesterday - have never seen it before. Facinating in some ways, the way nature works, but mum and eggs are no more!
