I know they are not much use, but they do provide a bit of night time interest to enhance the otherwise pitch black view from my window The plastic covering the solar elements had gone 'cloudy' (technical term ;D) and they were only staying on - well flickering - for about 30-60 minutes. I have given them a good rub with vegetable oil - and - even though it was cloudy and overcast yesterday they were all glowing brightly well after midnight. I bought some of the solar spotlights this year and they have worked quite well, adding under lighting to foliage plants.

Hi T!
I bought 3 solar lights this week to try out. They've got 9 LED's in each one! I was very impressed with the amount of light they give out not only onto the plants but onto the decking area also! Think I'll buy some more this week ;D
They were only £5 each............bargain I thought ;D

They were a bargain SusieS - they do seem to be getting more illuminating - were yours from a DIY outlet or high-street shop? Tig

I think solar lights are so varied. I've got a couple of fairly naff ones that just about do the job of a glow-worm, and I've got two gloriously bright "dragonflies" that you could direct planes to land with ;D

Aren't they just normal rechargeable batteries? I have to confess, I dunno what batteries they are but Maplins might be a good place and if it's just the normal rechargeable AA type batteries, those are sold at B&Q too.

I honestly dont know i have never had to replace them yet. The last lot of solar lights i bought before these i threw away they were useless. Its a you pay for what you get i suppose .

I've always said I'd like some solar lights dotted about the garden but the ones I've seen in other peoples gardens are a bit, well dim. I know they aren't meant for lighting the place up but most just seem to give less light than a candle. Any recommendations

Susie Snowdrops seemed a good buy with 9 LED's - a lot of the early types only have 1! The spotlights I bought have four and give a reasonable glow and they have four LEDs (more LEDs more light) Tig

We spent 50 quid on a set of 4 solar spots. My nose gives out more light after a night in the Diggit

They stay out all winter Snowowl - I was surprised when they still worked but the flickering candle stays "on" until first light
