Afternoon everyone, We're off camping on Monday to Aberdulais and, depending on the weather, should be there for 5 days. We know some of the things we would like to do but I was wondering if there was anyone on here with any local knowledge who knows of any gardens that must be visited while we are there?
Thanks in advance,
Skarloey. ;D

It is odd that this didn't appear in the last 75, especially when it is actually about gardens!
I've just had a word with a mate, whose response was.....
Bugger off I'm having me tea! "My favourites are Clyne Castle Gardens on the Mumbles Rd at Blackpill. It slopes down towards the sea and has lovely rhododendron woods, a stream, ponds, huge gunnera, a mystical feel I just always loved it.
Then there is massive Singleton Park on the West Side of Swansea at the North end of which there are some lovely walled Botanical gardens.
There is another more formal gardens within Singleton Park as well.
And then there is Brynmill Park which is just over the road and used to have some nasty old monkeys caged in a sorry state and some sad glasshouses and small lake - I don't know what it is like now but probably not worth bothering with."
To add to their comments I would say that the two gardens at the end of the motorway/A48 in Camarthenshire (40 minutes?) might be worth a visit.
The National Botanic Garden of Wales is another IMHO "splendid millennium project success" (I thought it was so disappointing in so many ways), but was actually also rather nice in other ways.
Then there is a proper garden at Aberglasney, which is better in my book. In simple terms I would compare the two (re your holiday last year) as the National more like Eden and Aberglasney like Heligan in terms of how I feel about them (although neither of course are remotely like them).
Also make sure you go to the beach at Caswell!
Happy camping!

If I could have put money on someone helping, it would have been you my cabbagey chum!!! ;D Thanks for all that. Now you know how I felt about Heligan, so I think Aberglasney will have to be the garden for now.... until I've googled all the others that is but I reckon I can count on your choice. I shall also google Caswell, OH wants to spend an evening (if it's nice) at Rossilly (sp?) as the sunsets are supposed to be spectacular.... I will take me camera. The googling will have to wait though, as the big fella is going to be back from the Chinese in about 2 minutes and I have to warm the plates up!!! Thanks again for your help Chicken Lips. ;D XX

If Cardiff isn't too far from where you are camping, I would strongly recommend a visit to the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans. It is a full day out, it is FREE, and there are some lovely gardens attached to St Fagans Castle which is part of the site, although a manor house rather than a castle. The newly restored Italian garden is partly the work of Chris Beardshaw. www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/stfagans/
