I have just started keeping chickens, does anyone know if I can put small amouts of the poo into my compost bin with everything else that get thrown in there? Thanks for any advice on this. Carol.

I would think so, as long as it has been composted. After all, that is what we buy as chicken pellets. At least yours wont have come from poor battery reared birds. I am so envious of you, I would love to keep them.

ABSOLUTELY definitely! Chicken muck is the very best compost activator and will improve your compost immensely. I have been keeping chickens for 25 years and have been shoving it in there all that time! I do try not to add too much straw at once and I do try and keep the compost nicely wet and stir it up with all the green veggie rubbish but that's all. I use the deep bed method which means I basically keep pushing fresh straw on top until I have a good thick layer of rich muck at which point I get it all out , put the good stuff in the compost and the still usuable stuff back at the bottom and so forth. It's the lazy person's method, in essence! I don't know how many chickens you have or where they are roosting at night it's the night time droppings you need to remove regularly to avoid the Himalayan made out of Poo effect! And try not to get any food/corn in the straw or the rats will move in...and then they'll get into the compost too......
