Just a proud mummy here, we went to the Arboretum and to a GC today for a nosy around and she managed to recognise plants which we have in our garden - without any prompting from me (cos I hadn't seen them) So for her nothing like starting them off young!! Jardack

my husband exclaimed today that he was amazed at how much our 5 year old son knows about our garden. little one apparently told him that the purple plant that dad was amazed at was a buddleia but he didnt like it as much as the white one over there!!!! hubby was shocked as he didnt even know we had buddleia. i on the other hand was not amazed as my son has done nothing but follow me round our small garden for the last five years!!! xxxx keep on encouraging the little ones. xxx

Don't they always amaze My kids seemed to take no notice of my gardening efforts when they were youngsters - nowadays they are both keen on growing - quite often the shrubs and plants I put in the garden when they were little are now to be found in theirs! My Grandkids enjoy wandering round the garden with me, and picking fresh veg is always a treat - peas, baby carrots and radish seldom make it back to the kitchen! Tig

That's BRILLIANT Jardack - they are never too young to learn especially about important things like gardening ;D
LP can say Verbena Bonariensis now, as well as recognise it. I gave mum some last year and mum STILL can't say it ;D And as you say Tigridia they love pottering about and piccing veggies and fruit. The trouble is that where the soft fruits are concerned, very little actually gets to the house, but there are always tell-tale signs on fingers and mouths!!!

I think LP's first foray into "gardening" was picking daisies - like many children probably. She used to call them "daydees". My little niece was picking daisies and buttercups from the lawn today but they are all "dayzees" to her, including the dandylions!!! It gives me such a thrill when then just take notice of their surroundings

Lily loves to smell the flowers when we go down the garden - she screws her little nose up to have a sniff of them ;D

Keep us posted with their development Jardack - it's so exciting. Herbs are a good thing to sniff too, and some of them they can taste of course - LP can't get enough parsley or basil ;D

Plocket your post reminded me, she was smelling all the different things in the garden saying how nice they were, till she got to the curry plant... which she really wasn't impressed with ;D
She now avoids that plant....

I can't say I blame her Jardack - I loathe the stuff too!!! ;D But it's good to find things that she doesn't like, as well as things she likes - it's all part of learning
