Hi all,
Earlier this year some yellow alyssum had self seeded itself beside and behind Dahlia 'Bishop of Llanduff' ... and looked spectacular next to the dahlia's dark foliage. Not my doing at all ... which made me wonder, what other happy accidents have you had that you'll be trying to repeat? cheers ...

A couple CC - I left an area of grass to just grow about four summers ago (never again!!), the following year we tamed it, and the year following that we found we had cowslips growing in one or two spots, and now they've seeded themselves more freely and we have lovely little clumps dotted around through spring.
Second is a hedge we planted with hawthorn and blackthorn about 8 years ago. Little did I know then that blackthorn produces sloes. And last year we had a bumper crop. Made lots of sloe gin (deeelicious). So although the hedge was intended, the sloes weren't if you know what I mean. I call that a very happy accident ;D

My mum potted up a lavender which I had grown from seed for me. The compost she used she had tried growing Cannas from seed in, and nothing came up.
I now have 4 baby Canna's growing in the pot with the Lavender.
I also sowed some Aubretia seeds a few months or so ago, and planted them outside, ready to flower next year, and one is in flower now! Not really an accident as such, but I'm happy about it anyway.

I'm really worried now. All the pots and seed trays of non starter seeds I've sown this year have been recycled in a bucket I keep in the GH for using when I transfer stuff into larger pots. Heaven knows what accidents I may have growing at some point in the future ;D

I've got what I think is a clem that I'd left for dead last year growing up amongst my sweetpeas. It has the little 'elbows' as mum likes to call them so I'll just have to wait and see what it does!
I've also got a potful of selfseeded morning glories flowering away and a fuschia that came back to life after it got left outside over winter.
Oh, and my Gardeners World mag has just popped through the letter box which is always a nice surprise - time for a cuppa I think!!!

I have found a seedling of an eleagnous a few yards from the main plant, so I have potted it up to see if it grows.

I've just found one! A viola I grew from a cutting, has suddenly taken off to come up through a Fuschia, also one of last year's cuttings.

Hi Shrub! No, a neighbour allowed me to go round her garden taking cuttings from anything I liked. She grows mainly rock plants and has a wide range of Violas. Naturally, I didn't label any of them, so when I planted the plants out in the spring, it was pot luck. They are all beautiful though. ;D
