Hi all There was a meet at Trentham Gardens today and we went up to meet Yakram again, we met initially at Ness in March. We were not going to go as the forecast was for heavy showers. This had improved last night to light showers and this morning the forecast said that after a grey start it would brighten up. Unfortunately, the first forecast was right - it was persistent rain all day, and quite heavy at times. We had to go back to the car for the big umbrella and did the Italian gardens in the pouring rain. The gardens are fabulous and well worth a visit and I did take some photos. Too many to post individually so I hope you don't mind a link. Although it was very wet and often quite windy too, we enjoyed our day and will definitely go back when the weather is a little better. s113.photobucket.com/albums/n220/piggingardener/Trentham%20Gardens%202007/?bulkComplete=1187547927554

Thanks for the tour PG - I have been to Trentham Gardens many times but never done the Italian Gardens
By the time I have been thru the lovely garden centre, the indoor "garden centre" the shops and then had a hearty home cooked lunch in the wonderful restaurant the day is nearly over
I always think two days is best for a visit - have you been to the Monkey Park next door

Great photos Piggingardener: they really capture the essence of the fabulous gardens, which looked splendid, even in the liquid sunshine. Thank you for sharing the photos with us all. I agree the gardens are well worth a return visit, perhaps in June for a different perspective.

Yes we thought June would be nice for a return visit next year. It was my first visit to Trentham despite the fact that it's only about an hours drive away from us. We haven't done the monkey forest yet, maybe next time. We would like to do some of the walks around the lake too but would need better weather. The little show gardens were lovely as well as the huge Italian garden, we were really taken with the potager, it was rustic and cottagy and something I would like to do in the future. The garden centre is good too, they had a huge range of tulip bulbs on display, shame I have no room for any more!

Hello Tigridia
It's amazing how you so rarely visit places on your doorstep isn't it? We keep saying we will go to Biddulph Grange but we still haven't been, or the Dorothy Clive Garden! Are you North or South Staffs?

Hi PG How about Mid-Staffs - I am virtually in the middle of the county. We have been to Biddulph Grange - loved it - got some beautiful photos of our visit three years back. We go to Dorothy Clive at least once a year, it is quite a hike round, and one to take advantage of before old age finally sets in! We visited Bantock House in 2005, not as good as I thought it would be. We want to go to Consett Hall Gardens, nr Whetley Rock, but they are only open Weds and Sundays in the summer months, may manage to get there before end September. Tig

Hi Tigridia
I'm more South Staffs, so probably not so far from you. Never heard of Bantock House, whereabouts is it? I am going to Wolsely Old Hall hopefully next Saturday. I have relatives coming to stay so we thought we'd go there and then on to David Austin Roses as it's not too far from there. Must do Biddulph next year, I want to go to Barnsdale and Rutland Water too and find a B&B to stay overnight. We were going to do it this year but the weather has been so awful.
