He came home early today coz he wasn't in the office and had been up since 5.00am, but the surprise was: he was clutching a Chilean Potato Vine. What the heck do I do with it??? I hope it will grow in a pot in partial sun/partial shade ;D Any suggestions welcomed!!

the semi shaded aspect will suite it fine, which one have you got? if it is jasminoides or glasnevin they attain 20ft but they respond well to pruning. my glasnevin has been in flower since may and is just about finished now.

Oh goodness I don't know! It's got purple-ish leaves and pretty white flowers but I'll check for a label tomorrow - it's out in the garden at the moment.

I bought one from a Boot Sale a few years ago-- it didn't survive the second Winter. I was told that the sap/leaves were poisonous ---I dont know if this is true.

The label says "Solanum Jasminum Album" - apparently it's invaluable for covering sheds!!! Heaven knows where I'm going to grow it

What a nice surprise! Plocket, do try and make room for it ... like Beanie's, mine has been in flower since May and is still going strong. Take a look at the Solanum Alba thread on Beds and Borders ... cheers ...

I found that thread this morning CC - but thank you I've planted it in a large pot for the time being and will grow it up and around the front room window. I hope it can be controled relatively easily

Well, if you've read the read you know about Solanum Triffidus ;D ... seriously, I chop bits off when they become intrusive and it doesn't seem to mind at all. Also, it's evergreen and the flowers last well in a vase - you can see I'm really a fan of this plant ;D ... cheers ...

Well I know where to come with my questions then ;D Mine is about 1m high at the moment with one longer strand, but there's only one stem at the base. How should I prune it and when? And is it going to get really bushy like a montana?

Heavens Plocket, I'm still learning. I think Beanie (??) said to prune it down to short spurs in spring, but I'm not sure the season really matters. It does become quite bushy ... cheers ...

I'll see how I get on then, but I have a feeling it might have to go outside the garden wall to grow up one of my new-ish rambling roses

Don't they do the sweetest things sometimes Do you think the shed for it to grow over might be next ;D I'm sure you can keep it in check with a good trim P

Hahaha! The shed would be a nice idea, but more so would be the space to put it on! Perhaps I should just get a tardis instead, then I could keep the tardis in the garage and take it into the garden when I need it..... AND I need space to store my old plastic garden furniture because M&D have ordered a GORGEOUS metal garden set for my birthday ;D
OH was thrilled to see the plant potted up when he got home from work.

I would love a bigger garden but it would mean more work And I just love my little garden now, except that I haven't got a shed, or a greenhouse, or..... Oh you know what I mean! ;D
