I started to cut back the group 3 clems and prune the roses, it was so warm in the sunshine!

I just grumped and growled at the pigeons and the pheasants. They have taken the flowers of yet another clump of Snowdrops.

I have managed to plant out all the Parkers order, just over 3 hours it has taken me as I had to do some weeding and de-mossing to plant things where I wanted them. Astrantria major, rubra & maxima, 9 hostas (as there were extra roots with the white feather (+2) & wide brim (+1) ), 5 hellebores, all Ellens varieties mainly doubles, 3 phlox paniculata sherbert cocktail and 5 mixed auricula primulas which have gone in one container. The 15 free asiatic lily bulbs have gone into one large container, they weren't big bulbs but should be an interesting mixed pot. Hope the FG orders take a bit longer to come, I've forgotten what I've ordered so better check I've still got spaces available in the right places!

Sounds like a busy time for you Tig, well done getting them all planted. Dutchy, that's a real pain. I've cut back the old leaves on some hellebore I'd missed.

They should show some respect Dutchy and leave the snowdrops alone! There's always a few isn't there Ladygardener! I did more cutting back and weeding. The hydrangeas are done, the old crocosmia leaves are cleared and all the roses and clems are done. Brenna had a great time weaving in and out of the stipa leaves, I wish I'd had my phone on me so I could have taken a picture of her peeking out!

I wasn't going to do anything but spotted the return of the sucker on angel face so have cut it off below ground, then tidied a tree peony nearby and got the chicken manure pellets out & have chucked a handful around the roses & peonies, and some of the clems.

Brenna's on her way Tig , chicken manure pellets are a million times more interesting than wild chilies!

Nice morning so I got some more rosebay willow herb out I'd spotted in the top border and the veg plot, then spotted another big clump in the first oblong border. Cut next doors cotoneaster back some more and hard pruned the korean beauty clematis that romps away over the bottom arch. Now that the ITOH peonies have viable buds I pruned out any old stems that hadn't sprouted. I think I've done them all but never sure as they are dotted around all over the place now. You can see how some have new buds on the old stems in this pic, and why it is worth leaving them to see what sprouts. Found another clump of rbwh in there too, with a long length of root! It may have snapped though as they are so brittle.

You'll soon be cutting back your Epimedium too Tig.

I only tend to prune the epimediums if the foliage looks tatty Dutchy, at the moment it is looking quite healthy and as long as the flowers rise above it I will leave them as we are likely to get some more wintery weather so it will offer a bit of protection for the emerging buds.

Found more hbc & rbwh in a couple of borders so got it out & then cleared one of the small oblong beds which was covered in moss & dug out loads more lychnis coronaria that had self sown. Shoehorned the stuff into the brown bin, it will be heavy to drag down the drive next week.

I had an hour in the front garden weeding, lots of HBC and speedwell, grass in the woodchips and dandilion leaves all over the place.

I was on the allotments and a delivery of woodchips arrived, I now have a tonne bag full for paths later, I had to start weeding in the flower bed I have on there as the creeping buttercup was spreading everywhere.

In a sunny moment I have spread more chicken manure pellets around the peonies and roses I'd missed the first time, and put some on the rhubarb. I should cloche them as they are sprouting, but with the winds we've been having chances are they would end up damaged, and my new 'repurposed' jam pot is heavy enough but not quite deep enough. A few more weeds were removed on my travels but it is bitterly cold.

We did four hours hard graft this , morning on my plot, had a bonfire, weeded where the buttercups come through the fence, spread lots of compost on one bed, another one to do another day, very satisfying to look back as I walk away.

I've planted 4 lilium mix corms in a plant pot, I hope I'm not too early. And moved on my sac trolley a long tub of hyacinths on the front drive, the trolley was a bit awkward as it's just a midges dick narrower than the back path and pulling it up 2 steps was a struggle, but I won't be telling anyone else that or I will be in big trouble. Scattered some rose and shrub feed , I want to do some hoeing before I scatter chicken pellets.

We won't tell on you maggy It's been a glorious gardening morning here. Without the wind it was perfect for tackling the mahonia. I managed to get 2' 6" off the side nearest the path and have stepped it back so it won't get to overcrowded (hopefully). Had to have a couple of breaks as it was tough going, trunks were over 3" thick in places and the loppers wouldn't go round them so had to get the pull saw out. OH came out to help when I was almost finished I have raked moss off the old carpet runners I put down the path near the back fence, they should be less slippery when wet now. Bin is almost full again and I'm pooped.

Pulled lots of sycamore seedlings again, cut back old leaves and shoots from last year, couldn't do the crocosmia it had ladybirds napping in there, dug up dozens of muscari bulbs I don't want spreading anymore, scrubbed the patio and tables , stood on a bee that was on the step, I didn't see it. lovely warm day in the sun, not too bad in the shade either.

I dug the Helenium out of the front and split it into four, it was hard work, some little baby pieces with roots snapped away so they are in a pot, the mother plants are spread about the front beds now . a heuchera had gone woody so I dug that up and split it, it's rooting in a large pot now so should have half a dozen new ones later on in the year, I dug the dahlia out of the corner bed it was lost there, it's in a bucket in the back till I decide where best to replant it.

Just weeded for half an hour the garden bin is full to the brim, I paid my new charge a month ago but I think there are a lot of people refusing to pay it! I know in the south people have been paying it for a long time! but around here they are reluctant.

More old stalks off last years phlox taken down, they don't half get sharp tips, lots of ivy coming under and through the fence pulled out, painted the back and side fences, Dec, helped, not looking what got stood on as it has to be done, I need to revamp the bottom bed on the front but not sure what I want, it's South facing and has privet at the side so I've put a lavender in and it has geraniums too, be but I need to get rid of creeping Jenny and muscari before I can carry on. I'm thinking along the likes of herbs and nepita,

I have pruned back a peony shoot that had got botrytis after being frosted, and a hellebore with wilt. That was going to be it but I had another go at the cotoneaster from next door, found some ivy & variegated vinca coming through too so climbed in & cut those back as far as I could. When they pruned their leylandii the clippings were left strewn over the border on our side so I reached in to get as much out as I could & found a bramble had come through & rooted too, so had to dig that out. Was a bit chilly in the wind.

I planted out some more Wallflower grown from seed, it's in flower now so will provide food for pollinators, still have more to do. I've also been digging out HBC again, there will always be some but I'm trying to stay on top of it. Took the time to smell the Viburnum and scented Narcissus and had a walk around the garden, it's amazing to see how some of the Fritillaria are in bud already!

Your wallflowers are in front of mine Ladygardener, I planted mine out last autumn, I had a quick walk round the back garden and the daffs do smell nice, I cleaned leaves out of the pond and tied in the rose on the arch, fed the birds and cleaned the birdbath again. I bought a hot air balloon solar powered and hung it on the washing line, it looked lovely in the dusk like a real flame with the yellow and orange lights inside it, it's only about 6inches.

Yesterday was really mild, I got lots done in a couple of hours, dozens of sycamore seedlings pulled out, there are probably many more hiding somewhere up the top of the garden, I dug out a clump of orange crocosmia, I'm going to put the dahlia I dug from the front garden there when all risk of frost has gone, rip van winkle daffodils cant hold their heads up so I bade a frame to get them off the ground, lots of old stalks on phlox plants that are just starting to grow, they are in the trug along with moss and grass to go to compost, I sowed leek and cabbage seeds and more sweet peas, rain forecast today so no gardening.
