and I have a poorly hand from all that digging but  they will all grow Under the tree I have planted 3 cyclamen 12 snowdrops 25 anemone 25 crocus and 12 tulips I've also planted 15 allium purple sensation (Freebies) in my long border. In the rockery there is 10 daffodil rip van winkle 20 crocus mixed Just hoping I've got them all the right way up/right depth etc ... Jardack |

I'm waiting for my freebies from GW mag to come and then it'll be the same job for me - 200 of the blighters!
I planted Purple Sensation for the first time last year and they were well worth it. I'm definately going to get some more to plant this autumn along with Christophii and Schuberti. I've got the dried flower heads from the Christophii I grew this year in the outhouse waiting for xmas so I can dip them in glitter and turn them into huge baubles!

oh sairey i had decided to have my christophii as a star on the top of the tree. of course dipped in glitter first!!!!! well done jardack. i havent yet started planting. i 'm putting the job off as i dislike it!!!!  |

It's far too easy to flick through a catalogue and order little bulbs, isn't it? Then they arrive,  and have to be planted. Sometimes I have been known to groan with the freebies, as it just means more holes to be dug  But it is all worth it when Spring comes ;D |

OMG you've worked hard! I've pretty much given up on bulbs except for my daffs which seem to do ok every year. My alliums have never been particularly successful and my tulips this year were a disaster.

i got have some spray glue. in a can from an art shop.
spray allium and dust glitter over .
very easy.

All my bulbs get planted in pots as I can never remember where they are in the garden. The added benefit I get from this, is I can move them somewhere out of sight when they are finished and leave to die back. I must remember to label the pots this year though |

Am well impressed Jardack; it has given me the bump start I need to start putting mine in. Did you make a list as to where they all are  I will start after lunch; it looks like being a nice day and I do hate being in the garden when the sky is grey and it starts to drizzle Am a fair weather gardener really |

Jlottie - that is a good idea, I might try that next year! But I know what I am like and I will forgot to label the pots Jennywren - ummmm sort of! I know which ones are under the tree and by the rockery but not sure where I planted them exactly... It will be a nice surprise when they all grow! Jardack |

I hate plating bulbs, but I have done it again. I bought about 100 bulbs. My favourite is Queen of the Night tulips. They are all in the shed waiting to be planted. I mentioned to Rowan, I do have a bulb planter, but quite honestly it is easier to dig a hole with a small spade. I have just remembered I already planted some bulbs in pots a few months ago and recently wondered what the hell were those pots doing there just with soil in them. I remembetr now that there are some Queen of Night bulbs in there already!  PJ |

I HATE IT but I felt so good afterwards - still got some in the shed to plant even now - I have made a list this year where they are so I dont dig them up again later ;D

I dont mind it really. I have lots of space yet as we're 'developing' the garden. Seems to me though that I should really have structural plants in first and then plant the spaces in between rather than t'other way round. Maybe one day I'll learn.

Jardack I bet your christophii will flower next year - I did no preparation of the soil or anything when I planted mine and to tell the truth I'd even forgotten I'd planted them until they started putting up leaves and even then I couldn't remember what kind they were! It was a big surprise when they finally flowered  |

I didn't mind planting them under the tree as the soil there is fairly loose and therefore its easy to dig a hole!
The rest of the garden is solid and very stoney and its a complete nightmare to dig which is not as much fun.
Sairey - I hope they flower next year but I didn't do anything special to any of the soil, was I supposed to? I just dug a hole and put them in...

I just planted 85 Allium sphearocephalum. Small bulbs they are. I used an old apple drill to make the holes. It worked Mind you nearly broke my fingers trying to get the plugs out of it. But hey I am on rock solid clay. Found some old dafs in MssK's garden. I was digging it over and yes, I did cut most in half before I realised they were there. Do you remember where all your bulbs are when you dig in the garden in this season? |

i have only planted a few bulbs in previous years and wrote it down in my gardening book so that i would remember.
i still managed to chop some in half later in the year even though i marked them!!!
this year iam planting lots of bulbs and i will not be wrtinig down where they all are.
im sure i will have a lot of casualties next year!!!!
i have finally started to plant my tulips and i am not enjoying it at all!!!!
i have to keep reminding myself that next year i will be over the moon that i did it.
jardack i didnt do any prep last year for my alliums.just bunged em in and they were beautiful.

I spear mine often, not organised enough or have the right sort of garden, to mark the spot. Lots do come up however. The snowdrop patch pushes them up to the surface anyway.

well i have planted a few more bulbs but i cant do any more until some of the other things die off.
i have lots of cosmos flowering its sox off and i want to put bulbs in there.
i will wait but my enthusiasm for bulb planting goes very quickly.
