I've just had lots & lots of pansies & violas delivered. They need potting on but as I have 320 of them I wondered if I could plant them straight into the baskets & keep them in the green house until they are in flower. What do you experts think. Janet.

Yep...we do thousands of summer baskets using tiny plugs every year and they work out fine....go for it.

Thanks Andy. Do you think they will be ready for Winter? I got them from Jersey plants & they were very reasonable. The pansies are the crinkly ones. Can Can I think. Janet

Mmmm ....... but you will need to harden them off though, surely, before hanging them outside - the weather is turning very autumnal now - well last night and this morning were quite chilly here.

All my seedlings are outside in a desperate bid to slow them down a bit. If i'd had kept them in the conservatory, they'd be 3 feet high by now.
Generally, i prick mine out, they con in the conservatory for a week or two to get established and then they go out.
But as mentioned, do be careful of ground frosts....it was pretty damn cold in Brighton at 5.30 this morning !!!
