according to to-days daily mail, a survey by which, says that 90% of seeds in packets are dead, and the other 10% so poor you would be lucky to get them to germinate, so its not my fault when they dont grow

That's bonkers! Some seeds are very successful.

I'd strongly disagree with that too. I always have far too much success with seeds. Even ones that have been lying around for years. What data did they use, i wonder?

I to usualy have a good success rate. Speaking of seeds can anyone give me any feed back. I have collected the seed pods off my Freesia ( if that's the correct spelling) just wonderd if I dry them out would I be able to grow lots of lovely Freesia form these. Has anyone else tried this - if so any success? Gratefull thanks to replies in advance

I've a feeling that you would be better buying new Freesia bulbs AV1, I'm sure I've read that somewhere Maybe someone has had success though, be interesting to find out.

Thank you Chuckles I'm sure your right. J ust seems ashame to waste the seed if they would grow to any succesful degree. Maybe just a fanciful idea or I may get the urge to try anyway, decisions - decisions

I'd give it a go RV1 never say never, some of us are more greenfingered than others and have a knack of being succesful where others fail. Let us know how you do won't you

Good luck with the freesias, AV! Re. seed germination - I've rarely had problems, and buy the vast majority of my seeds from T&M. According to the survey's website that they have among the best germination rates. But I've also had good experience with Fothergill's, which gets a poor rating ... in fact, I've even had good experience with super-cheapo seeds from Lidl ... the only seeds which seem to pose a problem are those which are generally accepted as being difficult ... cheers ...
