Nothing so luscious, the flesh of the fruit is not eaten. It is what is inside the fruit. Think of what you put on the top of rice pudding. That is one part, but there is something else. ;D

Nope, no numpties here. It is Myristica fragrans. And it provides us with nutmeg. I'll tell you about the other ingredient we get. At the centre of the fruit is the nutmeg, but around that is a network of red vein-like fibres. When these are removed and dried, it is what we call 'mace.' So, two spices from the same fruit. Please don't think I'm a smart-arse, I'm reading it from a book I bought years ago. It is about food plants and it has all manner of interesting stuff in it. Might open a new discussion and see if I can find some more bits of information you might find interesting.
